Frankly, this sounds made-up.

@SamBrown ,

I think it very well may be. I worked for a School District for many years at the Elementary level and teachers and staff are absolutely not permitted to give information out to anyone about a students personal living situation etc.

I can't imagine a teacher or staff member doing this and putting their job in jeopardy.

I agree, the teacher should not have told my friend about the girl's circumstance.

@mamaslittlepotato. Maybe she’s in a group home and there isn’t even a foster family.

And honestly, what a 10 year old graduating from?

Only the people personally involved know the true story. This is speculation.

A number of things could have happened.

I personally wouldn't fault people not knowing the facts...and it's their personal business not mine.

@DREAMON  My friend was there and knows the story.  It is not speculation if you read my post.  She was the one who alerted the teacher about the little girl and was told of the girl's circumstance by the teacher.  The teacher handled it wonderfully.

@Biftu ,

I am not referring to the girl crying as speculation .....I am referring to the reason why the parents/foster parents or anyone was not in attendance. They could have had a personal emergency, car trouble, etc. No one knows the reason why they were not there but them.

This is so sad! Her foster family didn’t even attend her graduation! If there is no VERY good reason for NO ONE attending, then she needs to with a family who cares about her. Not everyone fosters out of love and compassion.

Hi, @mamaslittlepotato. You said it.

Discovering that was shocking and a heartbreak for me, as I'd previously thought of foster parents as being caring & sainted individuals.

Yes, wonderful ones do exist, though I've met only one.

Over many years, I've been a teacher's aide in 3 different schools, all in different states, so have met many a fostered child.

In one particular school there was an alarming amount of foster kids, and what a mess the majority of parents were: losers, slobs & bums, doing nothing to better themselves, their circumstances, their foster kids, & as well as their own children.

The fostered children were an easy paycheck, period.

One family in particular fostered only kids with severe special needs. They had seven! The more needy the child, the fatter the checks.

The special ed teachers and aides harbored bitterness towards those parents for many reasons...

Muddling through...

I was wondering the same thing. Since we have no human kids, seems like they have changed the word "passing " to the next grade to "graduating". No report cards, just graduation certificates.

My record? Not 1 single graduation ceremony for me. But I did "pass" to the next higher class.

I did not ask about where they were graduating from. I know that it was middle school.

@Biftu   I thank you for sharing the story. My mom was a foster mother to many babies. I am not sure why it was always the babies that she fostered. I can tell you my mom loved each of those babies as her own. When it was time for them to go back to their parents it broke her heart. She cried for days. She did have to stop after a few years as it was getting to hard for her to say goodbye to them. For this reason foster children always hold a special place in my heart.
I will be retiring soon and I will see if I qualify to foster a child.  All it takes is one person to make a difference in a child's world.
im hoping for the child in this story maybe the foster parent had to work or like others said she is in a group home.

@lenapecci  God bless your mother and you too for giving fostering consideration.  These children need love and encouragement.  My friend was heartbroken seeing this little girl.  We don't know why she was alone, but I said, my friend saw her later with the teacher and she was smiling and laughing.  Thank goodness for teachers.

Graduating from grammar school to middle school.  And yes they still get report cards.  Sorry you had no graduations, they mark passings in time.  I've had three: grammar school, high school and college.
