I know it is a popular opinion, but I haven't seen information that outlines exactly how this is handled.

There was a thread on here several days ago where someone shared a link to a site that showed just this. Showed just how much and how long people coming in qualified for in governmental funding. Don't know if I can find it again, but will try.

And that is why our deficit is so large. Our counties can take in their share. We have already done our share in history.

Well, that isn't true.  Other countries (and they are truly impoverished countries) are taking in a lot more than we are.  And no, we haven't done our share in history.   I didn't know that humanitarian aid and compassion had a ceiling.

Our deficit is so large because we keep cutting taxes and starting wars - without paying for them.  We paid for our wars pre Vietnam and since then, we don't.    If we are going to have services (which we need, unless we want to be a 3rd world country), we have to stop cutting taxes.  We have the lowest rates in decades and this is why this country is in trouble.

Perhaps some wish to pay more taxes, I don't. The more you tax people, the less they are willing to GIVE.

This nation was not founded to take from those here to redistrubute it within or outside our borders. The refugee issue needs to be more a privately funded affair, with less tax money spent on it.

If we are such a blessed and rich nation (and we are) there will be many step up to (help) pay for this through the private sector.

give to what?  To churches?  how does that help the nation as a whole?   It doesn't.  And no, the more you tax people has nothing to do with private donations.  Our country had taxed the wealthy quite a bit after WWII to PAY for our wars, and guess what happened?

yeah - our economy boomed.  The wealthy decided instead of hording their money as they would be taxed on it, they turned it around, hired more people, became innovative, invested back into communities.  I know my history, thank you very much.

This nation WAS FOUNDED ON THE GENERAL WELFARE.    No, sorry.  Our private sector won't do it.  They look for handouts themselves.

We as a country need to be an example and we still are the richest in the world.

Seriously?!  Who the heck do you think is going to pay for them? The last figure I saw, and I forget where so I'm sorry I can't site the course, said $640,000,000 is the cost to the taxpayers.  Yes, that's MILLIONS.

How does that impact you or your family?  It's pennies per taxpayer in the overall national and state budgets.  Or is it just the idea that bombed out families shouldn't get a nickel of your tax dollars?

Seriously?????

There are fewer and fewer Americans paying taxes all the time, and those that still are, are being hosed.

We have our own large subculture of citizens that do nothing to contribute to the wealth of this nation, only take. We have tons of illegal immigrants (yes, I said it) draining the systems. We have millions dropped out of the job market or underemployed and not paying taxes like they once did.

So adding millions and millions more draining the system isn't affecting my family. Oh yes it is.

Just realize that you aren't the only tax payer, and other are suggesting/demanding a more thorough and cautious approach in these dangerous times. Only one facet of what we should do to combat terrorism as there isn't just one way it gets here.

I think to get a clear picture, one should live in or work in a sanctuary city and study the economic impact to residents in that town and the entire State.

considering our taxes are at the lowest in decades, we need to raise them.  Sorry, but our nation is spoiled to the hilt over taxes and not paying for anything.

Our spending needs to be curtailed, taxes lowered, and have private charity step up and fund more refugees. Our nation is broke (acutally we'd be good if it was just broke, but so far in debt you can't even count the zeros and more). And the more taxes they take the more money they spend (at all levels of government).

It is insane to say that we are not paying for anything (through taxes). I know we are, but if you aren't please sent in more each quarter. Sure the government will be glad to mishandle it for you.

Yes, to churches and other private charities. And what the heck do you mean how does this help the nation as a whole? Do you not read the news. Do you not see how much private charity generates and gives in this nation. Have you never heard of food pantries, and homeless shelters, and halfway houses and scores of other charities that the people of this nation fund privately? The number of people served, and helped. Why should the government ineffectively take even more money, to grow their ranks and inefficiently hand it out in ways that never are cost effective?

This nation was not founded on the general welfare. It was founded on people having the freedoms, including economic freedoms, to make money and keep money. When people do that, they invest, hire, start businesses, and give to charity, but if taxed excessively, they no longer can or will.

Don't think you know real history at all.

Seriously? Which group do you think should pay more taxes because they are spolied? So far, I don't think I've seen one candidate telling Americans if I'm elected, I'll raise taxes! And the people of this country would vote for someone like that.

Maybe you're spoiled but I know I'm not.

I was responding to the wife of another taxpayer, so I DO realize that. Thank you for pointing out the obvious. I have confidence in the current screening process as it has been in place for a few years now. There are many who are ashamed of the knee jerk rhetoric instead of thoughtful discourse.

Oh sweetie I have to sign the tax forms. Paying 35 percent tax on our income is our share. Plus I was a Veteran and served our country. Bitter much?

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.
