your statement sounds like a sound bite someone would use on the campaign trail, all the while homeless people are lining up at shelters and food banks right in their own backyard and they do nothing to help them.

We have a church here in my town that serves Thanksgiving meals to thousands of homeless and down on their luck people. Every year they say the same thing - these people are grateful for that meal but the other 364 days of the year, they are completely forgotten.  I volunteer at the Food Bank that prepares the meals.

Here is an excerpt from my city's website on the homeless.

Some of the major challenges facing homeless persons and advocates include hate crimes, bed bug infestation, overcrowded family shelters, lack of transportation to jobs, and a general lack of funding for programs.

Other challenges to overcome include high costs of public transportation, lack of health care and jobs near where people live,

For those who need housing but do not have income or have a very low income there is a very long wait for housing (typically 4 to 7 years).  The last time the housing voucher program was opened up for just one week, 65,000 people applied for a chance to get a voucher. Then 10,000 names were drawn and those people will wait for 5 ot 7 years.

So you think that 65,000 people having to wait 5-7 years to get out of a shelter and find housing is less of a priority than a refugee? And that is just one city. I am sure there are thousands like it around the country.

And that is why our deficit is so large. Our counties can take in their share. We have already done our share in history.

Well, that isn't true.  Other countries (and they are truly impoverished countries) are taking in a lot more than we are.  And no, we haven't done our share in history.   I didn't know that humanitarian aid and compassion had a ceiling.

Our deficit is so large because we keep cutting taxes and starting wars - without paying for them.  We paid for our wars pre Vietnam and since then, we don't.    If we are going to have services (which we need, unless we want to be a 3rd world country), we have to stop cutting taxes.  We have the lowest rates in decades and this is why this country is in trouble.

I know it is a popular opinion, but I haven't seen information that outlines exactly how this is handled.

The passport was a forgery.  The latest reports the terrorists were all Europeans.  There is no connection to those poor souls who watch their children drown in order to escape the madness of ISIS.   If there is any connection, it's the invented one in the minds of people who are looking for a scapegoat.

Fortunately, our leadership has learned from the mistakes of the past.  And th refugee program will continue.

That is exactly the point...a terrorist was trying to pose as a Syrian refugee and had on him a (forged) Syrian passport.  That is exactly how a terrorist is able to infiltrate.  Fake Syrian passports are easily obtained on the black market, which makes it easier for non-Syrians (e.g., terrorists) to obtain refuge in another country.

I disagree with you....for the immediate future.  I need to feel more confident about how we will be vetting and accepting refugees.  I don't know what that will take to make me feel more confident.  Perhaps when one has looked terror in the face, one has a different opinion.

Seriously?!  Who the heck do you think is going to pay for them? The last figure I saw, and I forget where so I'm sorry I can't site the course, said $640,000,000 is the cost to the taxpayers.  Yes, that's MILLIONS.

How does that impact you or your family?  It's pennies per taxpayer in the overall national and state budgets.  Or is it just the idea that bombed out families shouldn't get a nickel of your tax dollars?
