Wonder what excuses Wagner will then use when she falls...

Speaking of the skating on Saturday, Scott Hamilton was sounding borderline creepy when he was analyzing and commenting on the Men's skating.

I think this picture is quite telling. Physical placement and spacing, body posture and facial expression tells you WHO is in charge here.

Tara hasn't disappeared, she's been doing commentary recently for NBC.

One reason she dropped out of sight was she had to hip replacement surgery. All those years of jumping and jumping. That was her big weapon. It took a big toll on her body. Then she skated in pro shows. She did well, but couldn't jump very much. For a while she did a little acting. I liked both. Kwan had more of the "complete" package, spins, glides, grace, etc. But she didn't have the triple, triple combo. Ironically spins are much harder then jumps, but the audience wants the latter.

It's a brutal sport. I enjoyed both Tara and Michelle Kwan, each brought their own gifts and talents to the performance. Does anyone remember Debi Thomas? Didn't she become a doctor? She was such a powerful skater, and all the drama that Olympics about her and Katarina Witt and their dueling "Carmen" routines. I still think my all time favorite ladies skater has to be Kristi Yamaguchi, she was so graceful but strong, and such a lovely person on and off the ice.

Mirai Nagasu is an inconsistent skater, more so than Wagner. In my opinion, neither of them are really Olympic material.
I totally agree... Mirai and Wagner are not consistent! I remember when the US had the best in figure skating. But now they seem to be good, but not the best in the world. I will be surprised if they come home with a gold! I would like to see some different moves/positions in the free skate. It seems that all the skaters do the same moves, of course, in different patterns. One reason I like the pairs dancing...they are really creative in their dancing presentations!

I really hope it doesn't become the Ashley Wagner circus because both Gracie Gold (love her name) and Polina Edmunds are great skaters. When I was listening to Scott Hamilton this morning, and he was giving his thoughts, and of course he has to sugar coat it, he said he thought the USA would medal. He didn't say who, or that he thought the team was good enough for Gold, just that he thought they would at least medal. From what I have seen, my hopes are on Gracie Gold. She will be interviewed and also skating tomorrow morning on the Today Show.

I agree. The reign of American ladies on the podium are gone right now. We don't have the depth that other countries have. Asian countries are really huge now in skating. So we are going to see more Korean, Japanese and Chinese (at least in pairs) in the coming years. Remember how many years Russia went with gold medal after gold medal? Their strength was in the pairs, then the Chinese came and ended it for them. I do believe Russia a big threat this year with the ladies singles however. The U.S. might surprise us and we will see Grace Gold and even Ashley with the gold, but I highly doubt that.
