Thanking your dad for his service. Both my grandfathers were part of the invasion and one was involved at the sieges at Bastogne and St. Vith. The debt we owe your dad and the fallen will never be forgotten.

Re: For Those Who Have Served

My dad is a Marine who made the Inchon landing. My uncle and grandfather (a career man in the Army Air Force and an extra in the silent film "Wings"Smile) both flew bombers in the Pacific in WWII and I have a nephew who is joining the Air Force. My Mom came over from Europe after WWII to make a new life for herself and became a citizen of this great country. I am grateful to all who have served and those who serve today, who have kept and continue to keep us safe.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's a debt we as a nation will never be able to repay.

Re: For Those Who Have Served

Gooday, Thank you for this thoughtful, loving thread. My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones. I offer my gratitude and admiration to all who have served so bravely and all the families who serve by their side.

"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own.

And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind."

That's a lovely sentiment.

But as the daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife of career Army, it's our Constitution, Bill of Rights and our citizens that give us our freedoms and rights.

Wishing those who have lost our nation's warriors peace and gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice.

No greater love than to lay down one's life for his friends and country.

We know that.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} It's our military men and women who keep that Constitution and Bill of Rights defended and in force. Without them, those rights would not be in force today.

Many of us have had military parents/grandparents/children. We get it.
