Lauren Conrad said that while they were filming The Hills (one of the first fake reality shows) the producers would text them, and tell them what to say and how to direct the scene. She said that is why they were always checking their cell phones!

On The K family shows, you can sometimes hear the producers whispering off camera, or see them looking a certain way - where they are taking directions.

Ever notice how often Vicki and her friends are checking their phones?????
