I don't take nutritional advice from Red Book...lol   According to my nutritionist, all vegetables including potatoes are good for us and potatoes get a bum rap.  Sweet potatoes are particularly nutritious but white potatoes are also healthy and we should eat them.  It's the butter and the sour cream and the brown sugar on sweet potatoes and yams that causes problems.  It's not like carrots and radishes belong in the Twinky food group...lol

Good point ..... nevertheless, there's no chance I'll ever die of a radish overdose.  lol

I eat potatoes and carrots, often together, like they are going out of style. Probably won't be changing that anytime soon, lol.  Smiley Happy

Jicamas are huge.  Take a look above at the report about jicama.  The true figure is given for a cup, and the carbs are reportedly about the same as a carrot.

I would never eat an entire jicama at one time.  Not even a quarter of one.

They are good, though.

I noticed that, too.  They gave carbs for an entire jicama, which must also weigh a lot.  We only eat little pieces on salads, rectangular strips.  It's nice when it's fresh and cold.  I can't imagine anyone eating a huge chunk.

Jicama is delicious with mango.

I eat a big sweet potato practically every night for dinner especially in the past two weeks.  Quick ,easy and nutritious or so I thought.  If I disappear from posting, you knew me when.

Re: Foods to avoid

[ Edited ]

Radishes are low in carbs.

I don't eat starchy vegetables like peas, corn, carrots, etc.  I love baked potatoes, but I don't eat them often!

I eat mainly low glycemic vegetables and lean proteins.  The Greek yogurt I eat has the most carbs probably that I consume.  I'm eating more Icelandic yogurt like Smari as it's lower in carbs and sugars.

It's exhausting and confusing to try and jump on every food trend/bandwagon.

Remember the egg discussions-don't eat, do eat, don't eat, now it's back to do eat.  I never stopped.

Kale is the new "superfood".  Maybe, but I simply don't like it.  I just don't, so I don't eat it.

Raw is better.  Not for me.

Vegan is the only way to live healthy.  No, not for everyone.

eliminate fat. Only if you want your skin and hair to look like a mummy.

Everything in moderation is a good habit to live by.  Reduce your portions. Limit your "treat foods". Try to include all food groups. It's healthy and sane.  What could be better?

@mstyrion 1 I so agree with you on this.  Decades ago there was a very popular columnist in Chicago by the name of Mike Royko who occasionally would have a column entitled "Things I Learned on My Way to Looking Up Other Things" which were my favorites.

One of them centered around health and eating habits (and please know this was back in the early 70's for perspective).  He simply said eating an apple a day does keep the doctor away but broadened that line to include eat healthy and you quite possibly will be healthier because of your diet.

There is no mystery here and I apologize if I offend anyone but I just simply cannot believe that any veggies eaten (and please know in moderation) are bad for you unless you have some hyper-sensitive issue.

I am tired of headlines screaming to avoid things only to have those findings reversed a few years later . . . veggies are your friends, indulge!  Smiley Happy

There's so much fiber in jicama that it cancels out some of the carbs.  I like it in salads.  Does anyone care if I hate mangoes and papayas?

As much as I love mangos, I can totally take or leave papayas.
