@chrystaltree wrote:I don't take nutritional advice from Red Book...lol According to my nutritionist, all vegetables including potatoes are good for us and potatoes get a bum rap. Sweet potatoes are particularly nutritious but white potatoes are also healthy and we should eat them. It's the butter and the sour cream and the brown sugar on sweet potatoes and yams that causes problems. It's not like carrots and radishes belong in the Twinky food group...lol
White potatoes are not a very healthy choice for some with certain medical issues (and a lot of people have these conditions, but don't know this piece of information). Sweet potatoes are much better for people with any inflammatory diseases (white potatoes are a nightshade and should be avoided by people with inflammatory issues) and people needing to watch their blood sugar levels as well.
Inflammation is the root of many conditions and disease we see today, and even seemingly 'healthy' foods in the nightshades group simply exacerbate and contribute to inflammation. (Foods like potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, eggplant,).

We're all gonna die so why worry yourself constantly about which foods will take you 3 minutes sooner?

It isn't all that flippant for many people. Certain diseases and conditions triggered by foods take years off of their lives not minutes, and for some of us, eating the wrong things makes us feel miserable and not able to live a full life.

I don't eat starchy vegetables like peas, corn, carrots, etc. I love baked potatoes, but I don't eat them often!
I eat mainly low glycemic vegetables and lean proteins. The Greek yogurt I eat has the most carbs probably that I consume. I'm eating more Icelandic yogurt like Smari as it's lower in carbs and sugars.
Corn has more in common with a grain than a vegetable.
I had to cut back on the local sweet corn a few weeks ago as I'd been binging on it, thinking "oh, the season is so short!" Well, my pants were getting tight and I knew what the culprit was. As Barney Fife said, "****** IT IN THE BUD!" ![]()
I love peas but they are so starchy so I only eat them in small amounts on occasion. I'll eat a carrot in my lunch salad but have never found that carrot to put any weight on me. They don't affect me like corn (or peas). I don't want to eat a boatload of them ![]()

I noticed that, too. They gave carbs for an entire jicama, which must also weigh a lot. We only eat little pieces on salads, rectangular strips. It's nice when it's fresh and cold. I can't imagine anyone eating a huge chunk.
Jicama is delicious with mango.
I certainly love mango!
The flavors and textures of the combination are really nice!

I am personally dismayed to read this.

Now how are we going to know if it's the sweet potato or GH that did you in? ![]()

All of a sudden your list of foods that you will never eat went away. I thought it was cute and I can't fathom why it would be deleted.

PEAS
Never, ever ever!
They are fabulous raw.
