Remember those olden days when people ate just about everything (a variety) and they looked healthy and strong anyway............I'd better delete this.............

I was at the store, saw some veggie chips that said there was a serving of vegetables in each ounce, and bought them for the next time I'm having a junk food attack. Well, I came home and compared them to the Doritos, and you can guess what's next lol. I threw those veggie chips in the garbage.oh my gosh......this change is a long time coming! I swear.....if I buy a bag of "veggie chips" (which I delude myself into thinking are healthier because they are spray painted spinach green and carrot orange) I just look at what the calories, fat, sodium, etc are for the WHOLE bad. Because I know I will eat the whole thing! I have even tried buying the smaller "individual" serving size bags. But that is just a waste of packaging and money. I know I will eat all 6 "individual" bags in 2 days.
Sigh.
(Edited.....was going to change my obvious typo of bad to "bag".....but somehow I think the word "bad" is actually the better fit!)

I rely on recommended portion size info, so for me this is just another way to distance yourself from portion control and healthy eating habits. That isn't good. Unless I'm misunderstanding and they are going to display both.

Not me. Haagen Dazs Bourbon Pecan - well, there should be a law against limiting it to 1/2 cup.

I am glad they will include potassium amounts but sodium content should also be required; it is not on all food labels.

And no one needs to consume a whole bag of chips. These labels are just going to give the OK to consume more and make America fatter.
I seriously doubt people who over eat are going to pay attention to any portion size labels.
If a person wants to consume a whole package of food or a frozen dinner meant for a family of 4, they aren't going to say "Oh, the label says 4 servings - I better not snarf the whole thing". Seriously.
I agree with you about cutting portions - a label advising a salad or an extra side of veggies seems to be a better way.
But ice cream - I draw the line at stopping @ 1/2 cup. lol

By the way this is not even the the massive ACA labeling that has to go into effect which I was talking about which affects restaurants, stores and vending machines.
Restaurant chains and many grocery stores could soon feel a financial pinch with the release of the Food and Drug Administration's new menu labeling requirements under afc
Section 4205 of the AffordableCareAct requires nutrition labeling of "standard" menu items for chain restaurants with 20 or more locations.
The measure also applies to "similar retail food establishments," such as convenience stories and groceries. That particular language is sparking an outcry from some in the food industry, although a final ruling on the specifics of the requirements is not expected until the end of the year.
As the law is currently written, grocery stores with deli services and convenience stores that sell prepared foods would have to comply with the labeling requirements.
dollar burden on supermarkets, with no additional, quantifiable benefit to supermarket customers, according to FDA's analysis," Jennifer Hatcher, senior vice president for government and public affairs at the Food Marketing Institute, said in a statement.
They'll get over it. Besides, they KNOW that info already and it's not favorable to them.
We deserve to know what's in our food and how it's processed and how it affects our bodies,
