You are thinking to simply for this new sweeping regulation. Every item in the bakery, deli or coffee shop in your store in every possible combination has to be tested and a nutritional sign for the consumer posted on the product. If they change from one type of mayo to another with a slightly different combination of ingredients the item has to be tested again.

Since they'll have a few years for the changes to begin they should have plenty of time to do a bit of simple math.

ETA: Most stores label their products with that info anyway so it's probably not an issue for them.

Next they need to add a column for GMO products.

Nationwide!

This will never happen because the food industry does NOT want us to know EXACTLY what we are putting into our bodies...sales will plummet.

I think this is fantastic. As a former WW, I am programmed to look at the serving size of items but I just shake my head at some of them. One time I was on vacation and needed to grab something quick for breakfast because we were heading out. I grabbed a muffin and coffee. The serving size was 1/2 a muffin. Who eats a half of a muffin?

Now I will say I have literally counted out 15 chips or 20 pretzels or whatever. I know the chips aren't uniform in size but I always figure they take that into consideration when they set the serving size.

And did you ever measure out a 1/2 cup of ice cream? It's nothing.

It's already done for everything we buy in grocery stores.

And they already have to change the info if the ingredients change.

It doesn't matter to me what they say a serving size is, it's merely a baseline to tell us what's in that particular amount.

Even if they do something as silly as list the ingredients for half a muffin, all you have to do is double that if you're eating a whole muffin.

Years ago, an acquaintance told me Costco had a new fantastic sausage. She was on a diet and said the sausages were big and only 100 calories. I looked at the label and it was 100 calories a serving. What she hadn't read was that there were three servings in a sausage {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

This whole mess is a war on the poor who are struggling to buy food now. Massive over regulation by the FDA.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2014/02/27/nutrition-labels-get-a-facelift-to-reflect-reality/ They are saying costs at 2 billion. What part of that are you going to pay though trickle down.

By the way this is not even the the massive ACA labeling that has to go into effect which I was talking about which affects restaurants, stores and vending machines.

Restaurant chains and many grocery stores could soon feel a financial pinch with the release of the Food and Drug Administration's new menu labeling requirements under afc

Section 4205 of the AffordableCareAct requires nutrition labeling of "standard" menu items for chain restaurants with 20 or more locations.

The measure also applies to "similar retail food establishments," such as convenience stories and groceries. That particular language is sparking an outcry from some in the food industry, although a final ruling on the specifics of the requirements is not expected until the end of the year.

As the law is currently written, grocery stores with deli services and convenience stores that sell prepared foods would have to comply with the labeling requirements.

dollar burden on supermarkets, with no additional, quantifiable benefit to supermarket customers, according to FDA's analysis," Jennifer Hatcher, senior vice president for government and public affairs at the Food Marketing Institute, said in a statement.

I saw this on the news this morning and didn't really give it too much thought. It was pretty funny, though, when I noticed when I was making dinner that each piece of salmon was 6 oz. and a serving size was 4 oz. Were we just supposed to not eat 1/3 of our piece lol

I wish Mrs O would give more thought to what ingredients are in our food rather than worry about what is on the labels.
