Food for a Grieving Family

A family friend passed away and I want to take food to the family. It's turned cold again here, sleeting and snowing this morning, and not expected to reach more than 40 degrees today. I was thinking about making Chili and Cornbread to take to the family. Would that be something appropriate to take?
