Clark the bald eagle’s father was a gift from Germany to President Reagan. His father, Captain, sired numerous offspring.

As mentioned here already, Clark has bad feet and it wouldn’t be safe for him to be released in the wild. He has become an ambassador for his species.

I don't think they would be able or allowed to keep a wild healthy eagle in captive. It must be because he is unable to fly and needs to live in a protective sanctuary and cared for.
