Flu Symptoms-How Long Does It Last

My DH came down with the flu last Friday night and stills feels horrible. My daughter and I had flu shots back in November so hopefully we are protected. How long does it usually take to run it's course. Mentioned to him this morning that maybe he should see his doctor, but I don't think they could do much anyways. Is there any otc that may relieve some of his symptoms besides ibuprofin. That's what he has been taking.
