Made an observation as we drove around neighborhood today - there are remarkably fewer flowers in beds and pots than I have seen in past years. Is this a trend or just around me. I LOVE looking at my flowers grow, their colorful displays, cutting one here or there to bring indoors, etc. It's a spark of joy. I do understand that it has become xpensive, time-consuming, challenging while trying to travel a bit, and just simply work. Are these why there are fewer colorful pots or is it simply not a favored hobby?

We have lots of flowers around here in suburban Chicago. In pots, in hanging baskets, around mailboxes. I love them all and have plenty myself!

I really don't notice any difference in my neighborhood.

I gave up trying to have them. Too expensive to just have Mother Nature and critters destroy them.

I read that the #1 hobby of people nowadays is gambling and that gambling has taken the place of gardening. That would not be true for anyone I know personally but I don't know what most people do. I only know a small slice of people in the world. I don't grow as many flowers as I once did for reasons of health.

I suspect the weather, extreme heat and rain, has an affect on many as well as inflation.

In our town and general area we are known for our flowers. We just had our yearly celebration of Azalea Trails and are known as The Rose Capital. Maybe the popularity of flower gardening is regional.

This is my reason for cutting back.
