I believe it has been well proven that you can't "force" anyone to wear a mask.

To some on this board, FREE means, "free to give you a disease that will kill you" because I don't want to wear a mask.  That's Freedom folks!

Wonder if they will feel the same way when their family and friends are the ones that get Covid-19?

@Zhills   The people voicing those definitions of “freedom” don’t seem to really know or understand the history of the country, how and why our constitution came to be. Maintaining “freedom for all” requires sacrifice. Always has, always will.

Re: Florida hit a new record today

While the sheer number of cases is horrific the pediatric numbers are also cringe worthy.  The worst part is that even though the youngest usually survive it is still unknown what the long term effects on their general health will be in both the near and distant future.

As of June 26th Florida had 7,195 pediatric cases (1 year to 17 years of age) with 155 requiring hospitalization and two deaths.  In addition there have been 12 cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C).

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Re: Florida hit a new record today

Economic recovery is tied to medical recovery. There is no such thing as a thriving economy in a state or country in the middle of such a serious pandemic.

That is why in the past, we took pandemics so seriously and threw the kitchen sink at preventing and controlling them. Our relative success has been our downfall because it made us complacent and blinded us to the need for all the hard work involved in preventing mass disease.

The people who aren't wearing masks still think this thing is a hoax. Irresponsible opportunists are still encouraging that view.

When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.

You can have Florida. It was assumed by everybody we would retire there. We hollered   "no way in hale" !  Besides New York last place we'd go to.

@SharkE  The virus does not recognize state lines.

Spikes in a few states will blow right through to those that appear to be doing better now. This is a national problem (and global) despite the attempts to make it state and local. We can’t beat this or even control it in any way by addressing it at inconsistently in bits and pieces.

Re: Florida hit a new record today

On Saturday morning, my granddaughter, who just graduated from college (with no ceremony, of course) will be flying from Florida to California, where my daughter and son-in-law now live. She'll be changing flights in Denver. I am worried about her exposure to COVID-19, given that she has a serious pre-existing health condition. There have been so many errors, screw-ups, and denials, all of which have put us in the mess we're in today. I pray that Americans will do their best to prevent the spread of this terrible virus. So far we are not doing all that well.

Here in NY we have flattened the curve after a devastating few months but it still feels very tentative. The Governor just put phase 4 on hold after seeing what is happening in the rest of the country. Just heard that several cases have been diagnosed in the more rural north country among people who just returned home after visiting Florida. Scary.

So far, Covid-19 was something I read about!  A couple of days ago, I was talking to a friend, who informed me that he had visited a friend the day before.

Today, that friend got a call from his daughter, who had visited that same day, saying that her close friend had tested positive for Covid!

That is tooooo close and scary!  Is it possible that I was exposed?  I hope not.  If I get it, I doubt I would survive.  JUST A THOUGHT!

I have stayed home for 3 months, just talked to a neighbor for a few minutes!  Was out walking the dog without a mask on.  Major anxiety!

This happened in Arizona too with all the 20-30 year olds with money to burn because of their huge unemployment checks hit the bars in Scottsdale.

I keep hoping that they find out some of the tests were in error!
