"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — New rankings released by U.S. News and World Report say Florida is the number one state in the nation for higher education.
The Sunshine State got the top ranking because of several factors, including the state's relatively low tuition rates for colleges and universities.
Florida also had a high ranking because more than half of students seeking a two-year degree graduated either on time or within three years. Senate leaders want to boost spending on student financial aid and provide more money for college faculty."
Wonder where all the intellectual, wonderful people who operate the colleges and universities live?

I've heard about Florida. A neighbor will be sending his daughter off to university there. We are in CA.
I have my opinion about all the universities that offer so-called higher eduction. Too lengthy to write about.

Don't put much stock into these 'reports'. Probably a 'paid'
advertisement for the colleges...strategically funded, if you may.
Baylor was continually written up on the 'best of' reports for
many, many years. It's a wonderful private college here in Texas
w/ strong Christian practices....but good holy, the mess they're in
right now. No way would I send my kid there.
Parents need to dig a little deeper to make their kids are safe.

This news magazine has been known for its truthful reports on the education scene for decades. It also has reports about children's hospitals which are very informative.

My grandson just graduated from a university in Florida. With the scholarship money the state gives to good students, plus the account we started for him from the day he was born, he graduated from college with no debt and a bit of a nest egg. My granddaughter, his younger sister, is attending the same university and will also graduate debt-free. She also got a scholarship for her academic achievement and has the same nest egg that we set up for her when she was born. My grandson got a great job after graduation and I hope my granddaughter will do the same. We come from a family of Ivy Leaguers but I see the advantages of going to a state school, doing well, and graduating debt-free.

@Puzzle Piece I think we probably agree about this. When the time comes to go find a job the employers look at the college and have opinions about some of them. Kids are best off if they can go to the college that has a great reputation within their field. My DH transferred from Penn State , where he had a full ride on a football schlorship to Carnegie Mellon to get the benefit of the best possible education in his field - engineering. On the other hand - when I went back to get my degree after nursing school I went specifically to PSU because they had a fabulous nursing program.

I think you may have the rewriting of the original report as stated by the Orlando Sentinel. Unfortunately, they give no specifics. Does it mean Florida has the most higher edu graduates, what?
Not long ago, I read the state with the highest percent of post grads was, if I recall correctly, Vermont.
I question a vague report with no specifics.

Why wouldn't they live in Florida? But I'm not sure that all "wonderful people" are "intellectual", nor that all "intellectual people" are "wonderful" where operating institutions of higher learning are concerned.
