Our 2 Dalmatians have never had fleas (and this is our 2nd set), I don't know if it's the breed, or if we've just been lucky, so when they started scratching a few weeks ago, we just thought they had dry skin. Our 10 yr old female was chewing the base of her tail raw, so we took her to the vet. The diagnosis was an infection of the glands, and she was given antibiotics. So we were very surprised to discover the other day one flea, then another, then another on both of them! Duh! Ran back to the vet and got some Frontline, and are in the process of washing bedding, vacuuming, etc. We're thinking our boy brought them back from the vet when he had his teeth cleaned a few weeks ago. How annoying that the vet didn't notice it when our girl was there! I feel so badly for their discomfort. Just wanted to pass this along to be on the lookout when you have pets! I think we caught them early, but it still was a surprise! Fleas! Who knew?
