When I first I read the title of this I thought it was "Finally a diaphragm" for birth control{#emotions_dlg.w00t}, thinking Happy New Year for you{#emotions_dlg.lol}

Originally, the expression was to indicate that one has no possible interest in the issue or its outcome. Therefore, it was "I couldn't care less." I think over the years the expression was changed by mistake so that now the "not" is being removed. I have never seen it used in a discussion where the person expressing it cared a great deal and therefore could care less, but doesn't. Intent in the discussion would imply that the person has no interest whatsoever in the topic. However, if someone wants to push it to the ridiculous, I, for one could not possibly care less than I do right now. The expression has gone the way of the non word "irregardless," which not only is incorrect, but is a double negative. I hear the mistakes, but I would never point them out to anyone unless asked.

I can't remember ever hearing anyone I know say ""I could care less"" out loud. I see it written down almost daily.

I think the expression has evolved to mean ""I could care less (but I don't)"" - with the parenthetical understood - meaning ""I don't care.""

How about just saying, "I don't give a ______! (insert favorite word)

It makes it much easier to understand {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I hear ""I could care less"" much more than the correct way.

Frustrating!
