I live across the river from the New Castle County (Delaware) airport, and the Delaware Air National Guard is based there. Air Force One does practice landings there also, often accompanied by a fighter jet or two. The Delaware Air National Guard is mostly transport-oriented, so when something major is about to go down, and lots of supplies need to get moved, the activity there picks up a lot.
I love to see the military aircraft. We used to be on the test flight pattern for Boeing (based in Chester, PA). When they were test flying helicopters and the Ospreys. They'd fly right over my old house. Sometimes low enough to kick up the dust in the driveway. After one helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a nearby area, a Boeing spokesperson said that was why they only conducted test flights over "uninhabited farmland." We joked afterward that we should rename our community Uninhabited Farmland.

I can't believe some of the comments! Don't you know these planes are going to protect us and maybe save our lives one day?? It's really a shame you were a bit unnerved.
Probably unnerved because of the bombing of unarmed boats, confiscated oil tankers. Threats to peaceful nations of takeovers of their countries . Attacks and threats on US citizens and cities. Guess you haven't seen what is going on even in the the US.. Bank take overs at record rates due to deregulation, possible economy collapse.
Can't believe how blind some are to what is happening.
But are in love with the White House decorations as the other half of the building looks like a war zone.

The country being bombed is a very minor supplier of heroin in our country. We seem more interested in the oil.

@Mersha wrote:Our area had our excitement for the afternoon.
Very low flying fighter jets, flying side by side zoomed around the area repeatedly for quite awhile.
It felt like the house was going to explode. Our neighborhood Facebook chat is lit up like a Christmas tree.
We had no training warning and nothing like this has happened before. I am a few miles from DC.
I wonder if something breeched the restricted air space.
Hopefully, they are gone for the day.

@Mersha If it's the area I'm thinking, I understand yr concern, fully. Some might not, perhaps many, esp if they dont understand the many, many, MANY challenges, intricacies, dynamics, configurations, going's on, busy'ness, etc, etc of this, your particular area, - (even to incl, yeah! .. it's bldgs, airport, very short runways, bodies of water, heavily traffic'd configurations & proximity's)!!
Heck, many of us are STILL, quite traumatized, even as far back as when that plane hit the 14th Street Bridge, en route to landing at Nat'l Airport, & all it's issues then even!! -
and that tradegy was during Rush Hour, V E R Y BUSY, 14th St Bridge traffic, packed! That was:
Date: January 13, 1982
Flight: Air Florida Flight 90
Location: 14th Street Bridge, Potomac River, D.C.
I, myself, NEVER GOT OVER THAT, & those incidences!!! Was A W F U L!, & so D E A D L Y! Deadlier still, even now!! ... for even subsequently, many more, *added* reasons.
And, lest we forget, subsequent, & some even more recent training missions/helicopter/plane, deadly, awful such "overhead experiences!! ![]()
Stay safe, g/f!! @Mersha
