The mother in Ordinary People. In the movie she was played by Mary Tyler Moore.

Johnny's grandmother, in "A Prayer For Owen Meany"

She wouldn't even buy a tv for many years....said they were stupid, and intelligent people read books instead. Then she finally got one, and watched programs...just to criticize them!

It reminds me of how people on this board watch QVC or reality shows...then come here to complain!
