I have a plastic pet carrier with a cage type door. One time when I needed to trap a feral, I placed a saucer of tuna in the very back of the carrier and left the cage door open. She wasn't afraid of me anymore because she had come to know that I would always feed her (but she wouldn't let me touch her). Anyways, I put the opened pet carrier down, called for her and put the saucer of tuna in there and just stood there beside the pet carrier. When she came up and saw me, she immediately smelled the tuna and went inside the pet carrier to eat it. I just bent over and shut the pet carrier door with her inside it.

I wish I knew of something to suggest, but I don't. Trapping cats is so hard, but that's what it's going to take. I wish you well in your hope to help this cat. I wish the world was a kinder place for all the poor neglected little animals...

Indy, I was following your thread in Pets Forum. How are the kittens doing? Are they all socialized now? I know you were planning to keep one (was it Abigail?). How is she doing?

Hi, Topaz Gem and NAES!

The 3 kittens that went to the foster have been socialized and spayed/neutered and this weekend they will be at the PetSmart with the foster trying to find homes for them.

Abigail had her bloodwork testing for felv/fiv and the pre-anesthetic work-up for her spay, which will probably be on February 17. She was negative

She is doing great, she weighs 6 lbs. now. I put some videos on YT - here is a link to copy and paste there. I did some slow motion videos of her also. She is quite the character and so lovable. Everyone who holds her she purrs.

PLEASE REFER TO THIS. DO NOT PUT ANY FOOD OUT OTHER THAN WHAT YOU PUT INSIDE THE TRAP. This information was given to me by a local cat rescue group who does this type of things themselves. You want the cat to be good and hungry when you set the trap. Use really stinky canned cat food, like fish.

You also need to check the trap every 2 or 3 hours so the cat doesn't stay in it for long and get overstressed.

Indy, thanks for the link to the videos. Abigail has gotten so big! She's such a beauty and very athletic. I'm so happy her siblings have a chance at a good life as well. Just think of what type of life they would have had if you didn't get involved.

Topaz Gem, as cold as this winter has been with many days of -45 degree wind chill, I doubt they would have survived if I hadn't trapped them. Even the kitten that was the most feral finally tamed up.

Abigail is such a sweetheart. No matter who holds her, even at the vet, she purrs non-stop. She is going to be a long, lean cat. I feed her extra and she must have a high metabolism. I'd like to see her put a little meat on her bones, maybe after she is spayed! Making her appointment before she comes into heat!

Now that I found out she is felv/fiv negative, I finally let Tiggi, my Maine Coon get close to her last night. Tiggi started licking Abigail's feet!

UPDATE ON CAT, I CALL BABY. Well , my trap didn't work because, the morning people are feeding it also, and I don't know them and different people at the desk in the morning. What did work was I know the lady that works in the afternoon weekdays at the desk and asked her if she could get a message to a Vet that might still work out in the gym. Well she couldn't give me the information because of privacy. Yesterday didn't see cat there and asked. She said the problem was taken care of, flea, eye, exam, free of charge, because finally someone in the actual business took heart and fulfilled whatever oath they take as Animal lovers. The Vet promised her the cat would be back in his spot there. So thank all of you for all the helpful information, I could not have done any of it on my own. Agency here in and around my city will not help, only if you bring them in. Maybe this Vet didn't see the cat out there all this time, although, this cat is always there and has been for the last few months, the cat doesn't hide or run away at all. You just can't touch him. The last few days, I thought I was getting closer, but he started hissing at me, and took his paw and tried to swipe at me a few times, yet he came up for his food. Anyway, he is being taken care of, something I could not do by trying to catch him myself.

That's wonderful! Thanks for the update. Please let us know how he's doing once he gets back to his spot near the gym. Also, please find out if they examined him to see if he/she is fixed. I hope so!
