Friend of mine who had flooding during Sandy (In her house for 50 years and this was the first time she ever had water) applied for FEMA assistance with the thousands of dollars of repair and renovation. She and her sons-in-law did the clean-up themselves, but there are still so many expenses ahead.
Yesterday when she checked her bank account, there were lots of dollars there that hadn't been there the day before. A quick call to the bank - FEMA had deposited a payment directly to her account, so as soon as she's convinced she's dried out, she can shop and buy. Some people don't even have power yet, but thanks to FEMA, others will be whole before long.
It's good to hear a success story when you're surrounded by so much misery!
