Re: Fed Up With Scam Robocalls and Telemarketers!

We changed our internet and lost the bundle with Dish so instead of finding a new land line, we decided just to use our cell phones. The silence of not having the phone ring all day has been soooo peaceful. No interruptions and no more checking that call during my shower (was it my son needing a ride?) only to find it was UNKNOWN name. Love that it's gone. Now if I get a call, it's for me.

Re: Fed Up With Scam Robocalls and Telemarketers!

@Suziepeach I registered our landline and my husbands' cell phone number on "The Do Not Call List", I truthfully think for us it has helped, if a number consistently calls I answer and tell them that our number is on the list, would they please remove our number, and then I tell them I am reporting them, most times they do not call back, of course you cannot talk to a robo call, but the same numbers seem to call back over and over and you start to recognize them, I just check the caller ID and do not answer, they eventually stop calling with no response.

I also do not put on my voiice mail on my landline, if they cannot even leave a message they get even more frustrated and stop calling even sooner, some say they do not leave a message, the Scam calls we were getting when we had the voice mail on, actually were stupid enough to leave messages, you just never know what they are thinkingl.

Our cable company/phone/internet company also offers a service included with our phone package called "Selective Call Acceptance" it allows me to plug in the numbers I want to receive phone calls from, when a number calls in that I do not have listed, it rings a half a ring here and they get a message that I do not want to be distrubed at this time, unfortunately, when I have a doctor appointment and they call to confirm the appointment, unless I know the number they cannot get through.  When we first had access to this service I kept it on 24/7, and I was receiving calls all day and night, now that we have had it for a couple of months I hardly put it on, I now only get a couple of calls a week, so it has helped.

Just a few thoughts I would share, sorry I wrote you a letter!

Can you sign-up for Nomorobo?  It's free and works like a charm.  I've had it for a few months and couldn't be happier.  No more robo calls!

I've had Nomorobo for a couple of years, and it's fabulous.  It's not available in all areas, though, but I understand they're expanding to new areas all the time.  It's very easy to sign up, totally free, and I'm not bothered by calls I don't want anymore.  Easiest fix ever!

What am I missing here?   I don't understand all of the hullabaloo about these calls.   The solution is not complicated.  Don't answer the phone if you don't recognize the number.   If it is someone you know, they will leave a message.  If it isn't, they won't and you haven't had to deal with them.

Easy peasy.   Problem solved.   just because your phone rings, you don't have to answer it.  They don't bother me at all because i don't answer the phone.

I think what people are complaining about is the annoyance of having their phone ring so much and unnecessarily.  And having to look every time to see if they recognize the number, if it's a call they want to answer, etc.  Whether or not they answer robocalls and telemarketers, it's still an intrustion.

I don't have this problem anymore, and there's a world of difference when all the calls that come in are people I actually want to speak to!  Life is much quieter for me now, and it's really a pleasure.  If my phone rings, I know that someone I know is calling me.  That's the way it's supposed to be.

Like others here have said - the "Do Not Call" registry didn't work for us. I re-registered a number of times. No change.

NOMOROBO had made ALL of the difference! Thanks to the poster on these forums that first told me about it over a year ago! Smiley Happy

I downloaded one of the many free apps that screen your calls and or block the unwanted ones and warn you of spam calls.

@CareBears, nice letter and good information!!  We have call block on our phones & that is a wonderful added feature.  Nearly every call I get are blocked or I don't answer.  Now my husband's phone is business so when a number comes across he has to answer as he doesn't know if it's one of his guys or a customer but he's been blocking too and it's working out.   LOL wait until Weedman lawn service gets their message this morning.. grrrrrrrr..

@Bridgegal

But it is NOT that easy peasy when you are a senior that gets confused.

These calls plagued my mother for years.  She couldn't discern any longer between scams and reality. She trusted their BS lines.  I can't tell you how many times I had to put out fires because she gave info she shouldn't, said YES when she shouldn't etc.

She was an unlisted phone number.  Doesn't matter...they dial by computer NOT the old phone book.

When you are alone all day,  you answer the phone!  NO matter how many times I told her not to answer if she didn't recognize the name/number, she did anyways.  It was her instinct...and quite frankly, she liked talking to ANYONE!

I couldn't leave her w/o a land line and she could no longer use a cell.

They prey on situations like this.

Re: Fed Up With Scam Robocalls and Telemarketers!

Me either!  I keep getting the robocalls from "Internal Revenue ServiceS" claiming there is a warrant and/or lawsuit and this is my FINAL notice.  I really don't think someone in the Albuquerqe IRS office is calling ppl on the east coast.

Definitely do NOT reply "YES" b/c the scammers can record that and then claim you gave consent for whatever the scam du jour is.

I will have to try that *77 trick.
