Originally the DNC registry was valid for 5 yrs, but I think it's permanent now.

It didn't work for me and whole lot of other people.

Nomorobo has cut down drastically the number of calls we get on our landline. My phone will ring twice and then automatically stops ringing. We got rid of our landline a few years ago, then started getting so many calls on our cell phones.

Yes, I find those calls annoying. The Do Not Call registry did not work at all for us. We got a Call Blocker unit which cut the calls by about 95%.
Unlike many of the people I know who have gotten rid of their landlands and use just cell phones, I DO NOT want to give my cell phone number out to many people. I only want my family and closest friends to have that number. Casual acquaintances, doctors, schools, etc., I give my landline number to. My DH uses his cell phone number all the time and now he's virtually harassed day and night by people calling him on his cell phone. And I don't mean telemarketers, I mean co-workers, neighbors, and business calls. We can't sit through a peaceful dinner without his cell phone going off. Who wants a cell phone that goes off during church? while shopping? during doctor appointments? I for one, need to be able to get away from a ringing (or buzzing) phone...

@SeaMaiden wrote:@handygal2 I bought the Panasonic phone on HSN with CALL BLOCK. It has made a huge difference in calls on my land line....worth every dollar and a great phone to boot!
I bought the same phone about two months ago, and it makes a world of difference. I actually bought one for my mom for Mother's Day! She was receiving more calls than I do!

Basically, our control is limited to a 3-pronged system - phones that allow for blocking (BTW, I got a much better set of Panasonic phones for less at Amazon - be sure to shop around), the do not call list, which does help some but not with robocalls, and if you can use it - nomorobo. More and more carriers are compatible with nomorobo, so keep checking.
Until laws change, which they probably won't due to money going into pockets, it is what it is.
Don't think I take it lightly like 'oh well, no big deal', because telemarketing, robocalls, and solicitors coming to my house - these are things that are the bane of my existence. I absolutely ABHOR every bit of this.
I've done the 3 things mentioned in my first paragraph and that makes an absolutely HUGE difference. Nomorobo is probably the most effective.
As for home soliciting, that one is a major pain. I have 'no soliciting' signs and 'no trespassing' signs. For the most part that does help but the occasional one who insists on laying on the doorbell anyway, just ires me to no end. It's always 'well, I'm not soliciting' - and then they start on their spiel. Haven't had one for a while, though (fingers crossed).
Now that I have a smartphone I need to check and see if Sprint is compatible with nomorobo and get it with that one, as I already have it with my landline. Can't remember the last time something unwanted got through on my landline.

About 2 weeks ago a raid was done of one of these scam rings in India or Pakistan, I forget but they found over 42 million in cash in an apartment. It will not stop when they continue to make that amount of money. Us cash btw.

What is with all these darn senior advantage & etc calls, need a brace, won a cruise, you'll eligible, blah blah blah blah? LOL I told my husband, it's because you'll be 65 this year..
How on earth do they get around the don't call list?

Thank you so much for posting this. I am sick of these calls too....had 2 this morning before 9am. I was all set to buy from the other shopping channel, but they wouldn't accept my coupon code which caused me to look elsewhere. They have the same item for 79.99 till 5/3/17 at the Other warehouse store that has a man's name in it. I ran right over there today and bought one.

Nine times out of ten you'll find the same thing at a source OTHER than a shopping network for a better price and better terms (like free shipping, etc).
I've purchased my sets of Panasonic Dect6.0 phones at Amazon and gotten way more for my money than I could get at a shopping network.
The latest ones have the block button on them (on each handset!) and that was perfect for me. I looked into getting one of those blocker units (a separate unit from the phones), but the problem for me was that you have to hook it up to the main phone and my main phone is upstairs with my modem/router, so that was inconvenient.
If I had to run upstairs every time the phone rang to hit the 'block' button that wouldn't be too good!
