Mousie and I thank you for your good wishes for rain. We already had about 10 drops today. LOL. Will anxiously await tonight as we are suppose to get a decent amount. Tomorrow sunny and by late afternoon and nightfull tomorrow rain again. Friday and Saturday suppose to be heaps of rain and many places are putting up k-rails and other things to hopefully stop flooding which WILL occur near and in the burn areas of last year.

Tonight am fixing fried eggplant. In fact am cooking it now, put it in the oven to keep warm and then finish frying it. Takes forever but well worth every second. Not difficult just that you can only cook a few slices at one time and I ALWAYS fix enough for sandwiches for a couple days. Doesn't sound good to you? ? Then you need to try it.

STripes is ticked at me as I put some teeth cleaner and breathfreshener on yhis teeth - well as best I could - and he was mad -same with Miss Blackie. She is the one I worried about as that little blubber belly can tear you apart. While Stripes is sooooooo big he is also very gentle.

Gotta go to the kitchen and check my eggplant - have a great evening everyone.

Winifred - love eggplant! It is also great grilled, and put in sandwiches, with a dressing of balsamic, fresh herbs, salt, pep, and red pepper flakes or not, or cubed and tossed with soy sauce, rice win vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, red pepper flakes, salt and pep. I even made eggplant croutons. I believe the skin was removed, can't remember, cubed, and fried with seasoned corn starch, delicious! I would look it up but everything is packed now. It is great in marinara sauce, in vege pasta dishes, etc.

RAIN, rain, here to stay, for at least another day, YAY! It really poured yesterday, between gentle, and none at all, again this morning falling gently. I worry so about my trees when they don't get a good rainy season.

Hi Possummink - the cold front is back here again - in the teens and colder with wind chill. We are expecting snow and just ask God to keep my power on. I'll deal with the snow - just don't let me lose power. My outside birds and squirrels can count on me and they show up in the morning like clock-work. I have a really friendly squirrel and last weekend I opened the door off the family room to toss some seed and nuts and here she came.

It appears that I am gathering quite a following at work {#emotions_dlg.blushing} They wait for me in the stairwell near the uppermost floor. I started with 2 birds and now have 6 or 7. The footless one seems to have chosen a new mate for the year. He/she is snuggling with a reddish/rusty colored pigeon these days. They all eat well first thing in the morning.

Wonderful story, Bird mama. Smiley Happy I tried to post the other day about the adorable tiny birds, which I just love, but was unable to. Of course, all of the birds are wonderful, so colorful, birds I would never see if you didn't post them. I posted some ideas for using eggplant to help you along with experimenting with it.

Re: February Bird's Nest - Valentine Wishes

Hi Possumm - Remmy, the male, is terrified, so much so that he has missed several breakfasts due to the pounding on the walls, nothing bothers the girl. Now, I am able to put them downstairs in the rec room during the day, where they can see outside, as opposed to the kitchen which has had tarp on the outside and inside windows so they could hear things, but not see. There is a lot of room for them to play, and the girl especially loves it, barking at everyone coming and going, but only for a short time. I go down periodically to take them out, using the front area these days as can't go in the back. They do not like getting their tootsies wet, lol.

Yesterday, a guy worked inside downstairs, and when the rain let up, went to the back and began ripping the stucco off of the kitchen wall. I am still emptying the kitchen, such a tedious, boring task that I find every excuse to pause throughout the day, thus I don't get done as much as I should.

I managed to get out over the weekend as it was beautiful sunny weather, and pull weeds, it felt so good. There is so much to plant and frankly, I will be outside when the weather is stable, and the inside can wait. A Daylily is on it's way to opening. and my apricot tree, which I bought a month or so ago, has blossomed, but with the rain, I hope there will still be fruit this year, not much, but I am excited. There will be at least two months that we are out of the kitchen, thanks to the designer causing one delay after another, a nightmare! I will be cooking in the rec room and grilling on the front walk, lol, and hopefully, on Sundays, we will go out to eat.

Waving Hi to everyone, and hope the weather behaves in your neck of the woods.

I am fighting off a bug this week, and I think the supplements I take is helping keep it at bay, but have that sluggish feeling.

Re: February Bird's Nest - Valentine Wishes

Hi Birding Friends, I just saw this photo on Facebook. It was taken at the Salton Sea in S. CA.

Winifred, I figured you might know the Salton Sea area. I remember flying over it many times when my son was stationed at Coronado in San Diego. It looks so small from the windows of an airplane. I had no idea that there were so many varieties of birds living there.

I love eggplant. My favorite way to have it is, French fried. Sliced then sliced into french fry shape, dipped in egg, then panko or plain bread crumbs and deep fried, salt and pepper and enjoy. I do soak the peeled eggplant in salted water before using though.

I also love it baked, kind of like a moist dressing. It's a great food.

I hope you are getting some good and very helpful rains.~~~~

Mousie, I am glad you are getting rain and hope it doesn't interfere with your remodeling of the house. You are really having extensive work done. Wish we could see before and after photos. I know I am snoopy, {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} but it sounds so cool and interesting.

Birdmama, sounds like the pigeons have spread the word about getting a good meal. You are so kind hearted to take such good care of those birds. I know what a worry losing power can be. It's scary and you have your little feathered family to worry about too. Do you have a fireplace??? If that ever happened is there a shelter near you that would allow the birds? I never thought about that before. Hope you don't lose your power. It looks like home will be getting ice in some form. Sleet would be better than freezing rain.

We used to have Ringneck pheasants, along with silver, golden, Lady Amherst and a few others + peacocks. Loved farm life and wish I still lived on one. Those are exquisite birds for sure.

Need to pay some bills online and get some chores done. Have a pleasant afternoon, Everyone.

Another gem from Facebook. I thought Winifred and Meuw would enjoy seeing these beautiful hummingbirds, as well as everyone. I know they feed hummers. Such a beautiful bird. Have more photos in my folders, but not sure which. I'll try to find them and post them as I do find them.

Re: February Bird's Nest - Valentine Wishes

I am very familiar with the Salton Sea. Have you never driven by it? Mercy me but you have to plug your nose as the odor is horrific. Did you know there is a rail line under it as many many years ago there was a train stop there but the ""sea"" has overridden it. I do not know where the odor comes from but I think the excessive amount of salt there contributes as the heat in that lwoer part of the desert is quite high. It is an interesting read if any of you want to look it up. Quite fascinating.

We had some rain last night and the hills around me had some snow. Really suppose to come down starting tonight again and through late Saturday. Since we had those fires last year that area will be prone for mudslides now with the rain as it will be a big rain and we have had none. Always something for sure. There are some mandatory evacuations and also some suggested ones. Not going to be nice so for us to get water we desperately need there will also be a big price tag to it.

Some people are not smart - last night and this morning with the rain TV showed some idiots had their sprinklers going while it rained. And they could not have taken the time to turn them off while it is raining - what a waste.

All my four legged critters are in for the night - of course Stripes would much prefer to still be outside. Did my wash - as usual early this morning - but had to use the dryer - no way would anything have dried out on the line. LOL.

Hope all had a great day!!!!
