I adore Miss Julia! These books are even more wonderful when listened to.

James Herriot's books on being a vet.

Thanks for this thread. I have to chime in and say that I'm a weird one, I guess, b/c although I've been a life-long reader, I've never been one to be really into a trilogy or set of books. Isn't that weird??? My older son is a voracious reader and will read ALL the books in a series, back to back. If there are 12 books he will read them all. If he likes an author, he will read everything they've written in the genre he likes. However, I jump around a lot. Of course I like certain authors, themes, etc., but I can't remember the last time I read a whole series.

You're welcome glmama, I'm surprised at all the responses. there's nothing wrong with what you read and how you read them.

I loved those books - my parents gave me the first 3 as a set of hardback books for Christmas, back in the 70's. I read everything he wrote. I always hoped someday to get to Yorkshire. His son wrote an excellent biography if you are interested:
The Real James Herriot, A Memoir of My Father by James Wight
(James Herriot's real name was Alf Wight, just in case you didn't already know)

Hopefully it'll give others ideas of books to check out. I had no idea when I posted this thread it'd get so many replies.

Outlander. Love the series, love the show!
Harry Potter
The Spellsinger series by Alan Dean Foster (I started reading it when my son was in junior high and it was hilarious. I ended up buying the series, only to give the books to my son when the person he loaned his to never returned them.) Most people here wouldn't like those books.
