I'm probably getting these calls, but I don't answer if I don't recognize the number in Caller ID. I can tell you that when the caller name is "Local call" and its a Washington DC area code, and I live in upstate NY, I know its a junk call.

PS MY IRS district office is on Long Island, so why would they be calling me from DC, even if the call is legitimate?

I never got a call like that. And would not be foolish enough to fall for that!

The lady (senior) across and down the street got an automatic phone call/message stating that her credit card had been jeopardized and was warned not to use it, that a new card will arrive in ten or so days. Any comments/info? Wouldn't her bank call her directly via a real bank employee? Sounds scam-y to me........

DH had one on his VM at work yesterday. He said the guy had a foreign accent, and the # was New York. His coworker got the same call, from the same guy, in another state (different area code)!

I've probably received the same call on my cell, but I don't have VM and I don't answer unknown calls.

I got an automated message on a Saturday morning 2 weeks ago from BoA that my credit card had been compromised and I'd receive a new one in 7-10 days. My new card arrived 2 days after the call. Your friend's call may have been legit.

Thank you, Lila Belle..........I'll mention it to her today. She's been worried, and at the time, I told her to call or visit her nearby local branch, just to make sure. Thanks again.

If you get an email or call from your bank or cc company alerting you or whatever, call them back - on the number you have on your card NOT the number in the email or phone call - and talk to the fraud department. They will tell you if this is legit.

Better advice, Dagna! Thanks. They, at the cc company would know probably a lot better than at the local bank. Easier, too.

I don't give info to anyone who calls me. If you called me, you should already know the answer. I used to get alot of calls to lower an interest rate on a credit card. One time I said sure I'll take a lower rate and they asked for the credit card number. They eventually hung up on me.
