Factoring in lack of exercise

There is a lot of talk about obesity in kids.

I don't think enough attention is give to lack of exercise. This has many facets. I grew up in a time and place where nutrition didn't get a lot of attention. But I was never overweight, and few of my other classmates were either.

I ate what I wanted, but boy, did I exercise a lot. We had to walk to school, no buses ever. I know that's not practical for everyone.

We were outside ALL THE TIME doing things, going to parks, walking, walking, walking, riding our bicycles, etc. Kids sit and play video games a lot, sit on a computer.

When I had my daughter, I was becoming concerned about safety for her. My daugher required a lot of supervision, so I couldn't just let her loose like I had been as a child. But even still, a lot of parents feel it isn't safe.

True we didn't have so much access to fast foods, but our meals were hardly nutritional wonders. We weren't concerned about fat, sugar, etc. Few overweight kids anyway.

I think kids just don't move around as much.
