A very intelligent person designed FB.  I find it hard to believe he let this happen.

It's very likely he didn't 'let it happen', he was probably instrumental in making sure that it happened.  And it's probably much more widespread and invasive than has come out.

in case you didn't see (from Business Insider):

Facebook made a bombshell admission about the security of its users´ personal information on Wednesday, in a startling revelation that´s almost certain to worsen the privacy crisis currently hanging over the world´s largest social network. "Most" of Facebook´s 2 billion users may have had their personal data skimmed from the site by "malicious actors," the company said in a blog post by Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer. Facebook said it has disabled the feature in its site´s search function that enabled the data scrapping, but the fact that so much user data may have been vulnerable was another setback...

Zuckerberg is before Congress next week - April 11, i believe.

He is before Congress but and this is a BIG BUT, he won't be under oath.  He can and probably will sit up there and say anything to save his sorry butt and his company.

Facebook is joining tech giants such as Amazon and

Google in an attempt to place a constantly listening “home

assistant” device in users’ homes.

One of Facebook’s smart speakers will feature a camera

and touchscreen and will have Facebook Messenger

integration. All devices will feature Facebook’s very own

smart assistant, which is reportedly based on M, the

company’s A.I. program.

The M artificial intelligence program has existed for some

time now and has previously been featured as a personal

assistant chatbot in Facebook Messenger, but the service

was shut down in January. Sources have said that

Facebook is likely to name the new smart speaker after

the artificial intelligence simply naming it “M.”

Facebook is looking to launch its speakers overseas first

amid the considerable scrutiny and controversy the

company is facing back home regarding data security and

user privacy.

We may not see the smart speakers from Facebook in the

United States at all in 2018.
