@Spurt My name address and phone # are public knowledge - they are listed in the public phone book. You people are paranoid.

It's not paranoia, it's the reality of the times we are living in.  SPURT asked if you use your real date of birth on FB, if you do then marketing firms can gather more infomation than you know.  It appears that you use part of someone's date of birth as part of your nic.

I held out and just joined FB about a year ago and now, I'm sorry I did.  I'm surprised more people aren't outraged by what Zuckerberg has been up to the past several years with this.  I've heard its pretty difficult to completely delete your FB account but that's probably what I'll do.  I hate to leave it because it's such a great way to get/keep in touch with people but I can't condone what this Zuckerberg character's done.  He's just a horrible person.

Whatever.  I never assumed that my FB musings were secure anyway.  That's why I never bought anything through FB.  I'm just an average middle class, middle aged woman and I have no secrets and I'm  not doing anything that anyone would care about...or that I'm afraid to let anyone know about.

It's about the things that are listed in your FB, even those you think are private. And people take the few things there (name, town, emails, etc.) and can match it up with info they find elsewhere and use it for things like identity theft etc.

Everyone who has entered accurate information to FB should be worried, it's your personal information and if compromised, can cause you grief you never expected or want to deal with.

I know a lot of people use fake names, incorrect locations, birthdates etc. to keep personal information from being compromised or taken. Not a bad idea.

That is what I've always done.

I don't use my real name.

I don't even use my real continent.

 LOL

Hey @YorkieonmyPillow

Is the picture here your pug? My mom had a black pug, his name was Buster. He lived 13 years, and was such a character. Most gentle and loving guy we ever had. He used to tell her when it was time to go home when they were here (she lives next door), and he would tell her when it was time to go to bed. Typical man! Thought he was in control! LOL We miss him terribly.

Same thing with Google street views. If you cough up enough $$$, there won't be any of your property.

Don't forget they have facial recognition now, too. It broke my heart when, 9 1/2 years ago, my GD's mother started posting her pictures on FB. You can't undo that. I know it's not perfect yet, but it's much better than they let on.

according to S Sandberg in interviews, if info not allowed to be harvested by FB,  you need to expect to pay for privacy.

A very intelligent person designed FB.  I find it hard to believe he let this happen.
