Facebook Question

I want to send an e-mail to someone on Facebook with whom I am not "friends." I am on Facebook. If possible, I don't want to ask to be a "friend" before or instead of sending the e-mail. My question is whether the e-mail will go to the person's home e-mail or whether they will need to check their Facebook page to find it. I'm thinking it's someone who doesn't check their Facebook page very often. Thank you for your help with this. I did a google search, but it never really said where the e-mail appears.
