Facebook Issues~~Facebook Savvy

I am getting tired of Facebook and its issues. I get so much on my home page and I don't want to keep everything.........so.......I press HIDE Story and it goes away but it comes back later on???? What am I doing wrong? How do we get rid of posts we are tired of seeing that is on our home page? Thank you.
