I use it to get recipes for my Ninja, but it seems to be otherwise pretty useless.  I occasionally pick up some info on my two grandsons which I wouldn't otherwise know, posted by my ex-DIL.

Don't know if you need Facebook, but I get along just fine without it. If someone wants to know what 's up with me? Some still use a telephone for its original purpose. If I want to do the same? Pick up that old/best way of communicating, other than face to face, and chat away.

I have it, very private on it though and I am not on it very often.

It has been a good way to find childhood, college and other "missing" people.

@hckynut*******Thanks so much for yoiur input, but I would have missed the opening in a store that I love to go to so much and the people there are so very loving.  The opening wasn't on any site, just their facebook page.  Also, there are other boutiques that put everything on their FB and I'm out of all of that and they're intersts as well as potential openings.

For friends I like to keep it personal with a call.

I always value your opinion.   Smiley Happy

Pretty impressive that some have never lost touch with anyone they might ever want to be connected with - have up-to-date phone numbers and addresses for all who have moved and/or live out of the area, etc. and just have no desire to know what's up with anyone they might be curious about, worry about or miss from the past.  All they need is either right at their fingertips or just doesn't matter.

I'm not on FB but can view all kinds of public FB pages.  Wouldn't that business have a public page?  In practice, I only see Lisa R.'s page, but I could see any public page.

Yes, you could see any public page, but even so some "deals" are only for those who "Friend" the page, and to do that you must have a FB page of your own.

If you only cruise by a FB page to take the occasional peek or look for deals on the day. You would likely miss out on somethings. You might only remember to look at a site once a month, and miss offers, sales or an event because you didn't see it when it was relevant. If you have your own page you can browse by every 2-3 days and it's all there in one place, quickly & easily seen, vs. going to 5-6 public pages one at a time.

i started on facebook a number of years ago because i wanted to be able to monitor my kids and their friends. i now enjoy it myself......it has helped me keep in touch with my family members all over the world, helped me find discount codes and special offers, and has helped me find people that "disappeared" from my life for a while. it is a fun and informative tool.......have never had any problems. i use my real name.

i also have a facebook page for my businesses. it helps spread the word and it helps me keep in touch with my customers AND potential customers. i often share coupons on there. i also try to make it informative and entertaining so that people want to visit the page, even if they are not in immediate need of our services.

i also use twitter, google+, and instagram.

I defriended myself 3 years ago, and I am happy.  Don't miss it.  I don't want to know what my grown children and grandkids are doing.  They live in town.  We talk every day.  If they have special pics they post, they send it to my phone.  I found it invasive.  I hate people knowing what I am doing.

That said, I see nothing wrong with those who enjoy it, doing it.  It can be a great resource for many.

I do think Facebook era explains a lot about human behavior.  It seems for some,it is a reality tv world.  Many want to tell everyone their business, they feel they are owed a view into others lives, and are not shy about judging others lifes' and choices either.

I have had a Facebook page for about six years now.

On my information page, I have my name, where I went to high school and college, and a couple of other things.

I follow my high school and college friends, and my work friends, shows that I watch, animal groups, etc.

As for privacy settings, I didn't even bother with them. I figured that if someone wanted to know what was on my wall bad enough, that they would find a way, so I just never set them.

I only have two pictures of myself on there, and I often go days, if not a week or more, between posts of my life.

I don't post pictures of every meal that I have, because I know that people don't care. I don't post about what I am doing every second of every day, because I live a boring life.

And guess what?

Even with my privacy settings at zero, and my information page and my real name and picture on it, nobody has done anything nefarious to me.

I refuse to buy into all the fear mongering about the "evils" of Facebook, and how the Big Bad Wolf and the Boogeyman are going to get you. I refuse to live my life in fear and paranoia, and that includes my Facebook page.
