I understand other posters' confusion.

If you want to have a signature line, it helps to do something to separate it.  Different color, quotes, attributed to, etc..  Just makes everything clearer.

Even if you didn’t have a clue about the ICONIC Holiday movie, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase I would think

it expresses humorously the relatable chaos and holiday stress when things aren’t going perfectly that many people have, while at the same time trying to enjoy Christmas. 😉

BTW You don’t have to have a tv to watch the movie or look it up either.

You can use your phone, lap top, tablets, or computer. The same device that got You Here ! 😉

This is a written message board. One should strive to be an effective communicator, or why bother posting.

When quoting anything whether a book, movie, play, speech, song, poem, or even manga the original source material needs to be identified. Basic writing etiquette.

Without doing so, as this thread clearly shows, miscommunication and confusion can result.

And it's not incumbent for the reader to look up anything. The onus is on the individual using the quote. It also helps when a quote is formatted as one and not as an un-punctuated line.

I haven't seen the movie so I did not know where the quote originated from.

I saw the movie, once, but would have never thought of that quote.

The OP's line didn't bug me though, I just moved on.

@Etoile308

Very well stated.

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming most of the posters here are at least 45 years old.  The internet has been in common usage for at least a couple of decades.  How is it that people still lack basic internet communication skills?

Not everyone has watched every movie ever made.

Also, not everyone is a fan of Mr Chase.

Wow!!

WOW!  Did this thread take a turn, seemingly, quite a turn!!    Woman Sad

. . & seems,  somewhere along the way??   Woman SadWoman Frustrated    whew!!

               ~    ~    ~

Where my head's at, regarding this ...

               ~    ~    ~

In my own personal "unknowing'ness.."

. . . (as opposed to my "ignorance..."    Woman Wink

I never saw that movie...

I never heard of, or read,  or are in any way familiar with that "?quote,"

(or, with any such facsimile quote..  )

If anything, my current, personal,  head space is of an elderly gal, who is experiencing life,  even beyond what I thought was the speed of anticipated, elderly light, or life -  *wink*

... and getting even shorter, & faster, in my old, zippingly fast, advancing age!!

The idea of December, moving beyond from any evidence of Christmas, to already offering Valentine's,   WHEW   (beyond my comprehension of the speed of (current) life... )

Now,

      also..

   .. maybe, I'm **trying** -

I'm also *TRYING* ?harder? - to try to show more "grace" & "true, interested caring" to other people.  Can that possibly go a long way?  I hope so!   Seems very indicated, esp now-a-days!

    -  erring on the side of trying to "care more about, & for others

    - maybe even trying to lovingly clarify any possible misunderstandings?

    - to me, personally, might be really, really nice thing to *try* to do for others, incl & trying to do for myself?

..  I try even harder,  esp given the inherent limitations of Forum'ish, or online'ish media methods of Communicating??

..  Seems these are high pressure, high stress, changing times.

Just imho..
