My flood insurance through FIMA (sp.?) has expired but I'm still in the 30 day grace period where I could renew with no lapse in coverage, and without waiting 30 days. The company giving the policy confirmed something that I find strange. It was that as long as I'm still in the grace period I could renew the policy and still be covered going back to the date it lapsed, even AFTER suffering damage. This doesn't seem right. Anogther agent said I couldn't but that was another department.
If anyone here is in the insurance business please reply. Has anyone been in this or a similar situation. Do they really honor the coverage if you renew anytime during the 30 days, but AFTER suffering damage? I'm in a coastal area in Brooklyn, but I don't remember the house ever flooding. The area is considered low risk by FIMA. I took the coverage at a strange time not realizing when the hurricane season was from. I'm not sure what to do, and some feedback would really be helpful. Thanks much.
