The homeless man who had his beard shaved by a Florida police officer in preparation for a McDonald's job interview has landed the job.
Phil told Tallahassee police officers on July 22 that if he shaved his thick beard for his interview, he'd get hired, leading cops to lend a helping hand. The heartwarming moment was caught on camera.
Phil won over his interviewers and celebrated his first day at the fast food chain last Friday, and the police department was there to celebrate along with him.
Tallahassee Police shared a snap of clean-shaven Phil holding up his new McDonald's uniform with a big smile on his face on July 27.
'#GoodNews Phillip aka 'Phil' started his new job today at @McDonalds! We couldn't be more proud!' the police force wrote on Twitter.
'The way #Tallahassee has come together to help has been amazing to say the least.
We were all reminded this week how a little #kindness can go a long way.'
On Wednesday cops followed up with Phil who said he's been enjoying his new job.
'He’s doing great & enjoying his new job at @McDonalds. We received some gift cards for various restaurants from a former TPD officer to give to Phil,' the police posted.
The initial act of kindness on July 22 went viral when Officer Tony Carlson pulled into a gas station and noticed Phil having a hard time with his razor.
The video went viral, although Carlson said he was just doing the same thing that other members of law enforcement around the country are doing, every single day.
'It happens all the time. It just so happens this time somebody caught it on film,' Carlson said.
'Officers all over the place... our department, the Sheriff's department, other cities... they're always doing things like this that don't get the attention that this just happened to get. It shows the reality of what we actually do,' he added.
Speaking at a news conference following the good deed, Officer Carlson said he was just trying to help.
'I saw [a man], who turned out to be Phil, out front trying to shave, having some trouble with his razor,' Carlson said.
'As I got out of my car, he asked me if I knew anything about fixing a razor, because it was broken, and if I could look at it. For whatever reason, instead of just getting in my car and leaving, I went over there and I looked at it, and it was missing a screw.'
He said, obviously he didn't have screws with him, so he just tightened up the ones that were already there, enough so that it would actually work.
While he was doing that, Phil told Carlson that he bought the razor second-hand, and was trying to shave because he was going to get a job at McDonald's if he showed up on Monday, clean-shaven.
'He seemed excited about it,' Carlson said, adding that from his point of view, since Phil was trying to help himself, the officer needed to do everything is in his power to help him be successful in that.
Carlson handed the razor back over, which is when another problem presented itself.
'He's trying to start shaving, and he didn't have a mirror, couldn't see what he was doing... it was not going well,' Carlson said.
So Carlson took matters into his own hands, literally, and gave Phil a shave, right there in the parking lot.
'I wish I could've done more, but in between calls for services, this was the best I could do.'
After Carlson finished up Phil's shave, which he didn't know was being recorded, the man was more than happy with the officer's work.
'He thought it was, like, the best thing in the world,' Carlson said, with a big grin and a chuckle.

When I read about random acts of kindness like this I regain hope that there is goodness in this world quietly being done by compassionate people who truly care. I know they exist and my faith is restored in the knowledge these acts are being done everyday.
The bond Phil and Carlson had with that kind gesture of help is so uplifting , God bless them both. Thanks for a positive story!

I agree.
There's so much negative news being reported these days, that I try to look for and post threads that are positive .
IMO, there ARE some good, compassionate, empathetic people left in this world and I enjoy hearing about them!![]()
