Insurance policies are written based on the level of fire protection, the Fire Protection Class, where the property is located. For example, the last levels of fire protection I knew were within 500 ft. of a hydrant & 3 miles from fire dept.;  within 1,000 ft. of a hydrant & 3 miles from fire dept.;  over 1,000 ft. from hydrant & within 5 miles of fire dept; etc.  And ultimately basically a class considered 'No Protection' which would be the highest rate.  In this case it appears this would be in an area considered No Protection since water had to be trucked in & pumped from the trucks.  Premiums would be substantially higher for the fire protection aspect of the policy.  And the size & value of building would be considered also, so if it was just a small cabin as she sometimes referred to it, then the value of structure would not be as great as an 8-10 room house.  It all depends on the value it was insured for & the replacement cost.  Their mementos could have considerably more valuable than the building itself if it was just a small cabin structure but had many valuable items inside.  From the pictures in the dark it is difficult to determine size of structure.

So very glad that she and her husband are okay.  What a horrible loss.  It has to be just heartbreaking for them.

This is a traumatizing event.  People grieve over the loss of things as well as become traumatized by watching things perish.  They can rebuild but the emotional toll currently unknown, will be with them for a long time...it would be had it been us anyway (me and my husband).

@aubnwa01

I saw her show from home where she announced Isaboo's passing from cancer, it was heartbreaking as we all who have lost a pet well know.

She did a fantastic montage of Isaboo appearing on her show many times, in memoriam.

Drone footage of the aftermath of the fire:

Exclusive drone footage shows how almost the entire structure of Rachael Ray's upstate New York mansion almost burned to the ground after a fire ripped through the building on Sunday

I didn't know all that. If I owned a "No Protection" home and had $, I'd have a water tower on the premises, a sprinkler system installed, and do what I could to make the building fireproof. That was a bad fire, judging from the pictures. It will be interesting to learn the cause, and it might help others to take action to prevent such a terrible loss themselves. I'm glad Ms. Ray is being so stalwart about it.

Re: FIRE HAS RIPPED THROUGH RACHAEL RAYS HOME

Living in Fl, every summer I think about what I would take should we have to evacuate due to a hurricane. I would be heart broken to lose my photos and scrap books and “stuff.” But, if I did and once I got over it, I would hope I would be better off mentally - to learn to live in the moment and not rely on “things” for my memories. We just downsized my mom for the second time and my dining room is filled with her photo albums and scrap books. Some day most of it will be thrown out. I hope Rachel and her husband can quickly build another happy home.

@KingstonsMom

OMG had sad to see this picture -- I normally didn't watch her show (although have many pieces from her cooking line).

I started watching her from home shows enjoying every minute of the love she has for family/hubby, friends, pets and special things in her home.  I also have been following her FB chats.

This is just heartbreaking to see -- and yes, I cried when she did the tribute to Isaboo too.  I am so happy to hear they are OK my prayers are with all of them.
