Re: FCC To Approve Regulation Of Internet

Regulation by whom? Am I to presume this means by beaurocrats?

Regulation stating that cable companies can't regulate who is on the web and how fast the speed will be on each site.

This will leave the web as it is now - free to all and neutral re: speed.

A good explanation:

The F.C.C. plan would let the agency regulate Internet access as if it is a public good. It would follow the concept known as net neutrality or an open Internet, banning so-called paid prioritization — or fast lanes — for willing Internet content providers.

In addition, it would ban the intentional slowing of the Internet for companies that refuse to pay broadband providers. The plan would also give the F.C.C. the power to step in if unforeseen impediments are thrown up by the handful of giant companies that run many of the country’s broadband and wireless networks.

By the FCC as it has always been. The biggest change will be changing the Internet from a Title I classification to a Title II classification which gives the Internet the same status as telephone companies.

Has the vote actually been taken? I read it was supposed to occur at 10:30 ET, but so far I can't find any results.

Exhaling. I was very afraid our politicians would ensure the corporations got what they wanted as a reward for mega campaign donations.

I signed their petition, too. I love browsing and shopping there. And I appreciate their concept of small busines.

I'm glad to see this topic again, last go-round there were people telling others not to post on the thread, lol.

Marp2-- Same status as phone companies? Not sure what that means, but I unfortunately was a victim when Judge Green decided that the Bell System was a monopoly. Still waiting for his "predicted results" of that split up. That 1 man's decision ruined lives, and not just the one's that were employed in that industry! Some say "giant companies" while in the same sentence mention the BIGGEST of them all, as if that is a good thing.
