FCC To Approve Regulation Of Internet

The Republican resistance in Congress surrendered to President O’s call to protect an open Internet, with rules likely to be approved by regulators on Thursday.

NYTimes Article Today

From that article:
The Federal Communications Commission is expected on Thursday to approve regulating Internet service like a public utility, prohibiting companies from paying for faster lanes on the Internet.

Hurray!

Re: FCC To Approve Regulation Of Internet

This is good news for consumers, but I wish the media (such as the article linked in the original post -- no offense intended, JJM, it appears most of the articles are doing the same thing) wouldn't make this a partisan issue. It isn't partisan. It's something we, as consumers, need to know about and need to monitor for our own benefit.

Re: FCC To Approve Regulation Of Internet

I'm relieved to read this. I wasn't kidding when I wrote about getting dog food over the internet from small independent stores. It's the only place I can find it, no big box stores carry the brands locally. They do not sell to the big box stores. If those pages don't load, time out if you will, I'm dead in the water with one dog. And these are small independent places who can't compete with the big boys.

There were far more serious ramifications, I understand that, but this is a small victory for the little guys.

I know what you mean. They try to make everything partisan nowadays. I guess it works to their benefit to keep us divided and arguing all the time. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

ITA.

This isn't partisan at all.

Internet access went from being a fad to becoming a necessary part of life. Some companies ONLY take job applications over the web now...many students rely on access for classes, homework, and research.

It's about keeping the internet in the USA free and open to one and all.

I'm glad the FCC did the right thing and listened to the public for a change!

Doob, you have me confused with someone else. I agree, this is not a partisan issue for the public. For the DC folks, some of them have obligations to those companies that want to milk more money from us.
