My eyeglasses have Silhoutte rimless frames, 2 ear pieces and 1nose piece. Two eyeglass places have told me they do not reuse the silhouette frames and one place has told me that it can be reused. has anyone reused their rimless frames?

When my prescription changed I was unable to find a place to have the frames reused. Had to buy new frames.

I used to wear rimless (before cataract surgery) and was able to reuse the frames if I wanted to. I didn't because I was so nearsighted I couldn't give up my glasses to have a new prescription so I always bought new frames.

Every time I had a new prescription for glasses I was told they couldn't use the same frames and would have to get new ones. Honestly, it felt it was a little bit of a scam.
However, I've also always felt that eye glasses are jewelry for the face (as are sunglasses) so I just got into the process of finding new, flattering jewelry for the face. Besides, a little change is nice. ![]()

I do "mono vision" with one contact. My backup glasses still serve me on the extremely rare occasion I need to use them. They're wire rims.

@Flika13 I would think the age of the frames would be a consideration. The lenses for some prescriptions cost far more than the frames. I would be hesitant to reuse older frames that might break causing a new pair to have to be made resulting in paying for expensive lenses twice.

As you know Silhouette frames are expensive and certaintly not a one use item.
Yes, definitely reuse if you wish. Rimless frames and lenses for them are difficult to work with. My guess is that the opticals that declined just didn't have labs that were skilled to do the job. You are usually asked to sign a waver that your frame could break in the process but that's just standard policy.

Always buy new frames when I renew my prescription annually. Not a problem as my progressives, including frames were $110 and DH's progressives and frames were $67 (thank you Zennioptical).

Yes. I paid a lot of money for mine (titanium) and I have reused them. I don't know why you would not be able to unless the eyeglass store is just trying to make more money off of you. The place I go has been my "go to" for years and I have spent a lot of money on frames there over the years.. ![]()

Most opticians will not reuse your frame.....
They want to sell you a new frame, most frames are marked up 500-1000%.
People with optical insurance usually have one complete pair of glasses paid for them per year.
There could be another reason, your new lenses will not fit the frames if there's a dramatic change.
Another reason is that the optical company is now responsible for your frames (personal property) and they do not want to accept any of that.
Hope that helps.
