Shorty, my Aunt is exactly the same way. She wears glasses for everything except for watching TV and driving. She is not restricted to wearing glasses on her drivers license. She never understood why.

She doesn't need her glasses to drive. That's probably why.

Yep, I'm sure that's why but she is able to pass the vision test without glasses yet can't read normal print without them. Kind of weird.

I would think the vision test they give is probably for distance, like you would have when driving. So if she is far sighted she would pass the test without any problem. Now if the test is for close up (reading) she wouldn't pass.

You're right RCG. It must be that.

it's called the "aging eye".........you have three areas of vision......near, interim and far.........I was far sighted but as you age you get more near sighted, the opposite is true for near sighted people...........the interim thing is always a problem for people with vision problems.........btw interim is the distance a computer screen is located.............................raven

Hey raven. Very very interesting. Must be why I need separate glasses for the computer.

it's exactly the reason...............LOL, think about it, I spend A LOT of time on the computer with my design program........I have to wear glasses when on the computer........I wear contacts but I'm mono vision.......but I need a boost to see the computer screen clearly............what I wrote is what my doctor explained to me..........................raven

Do you wear the glasses with your mono vision contacts? Are the glasses for both eyes on just the one for distance?

I am 46 and just had a vision test earlier this month. Both last year and this year by the time I went to the doctor, I was having a hard time seeing and I wear contacts in both eyes.

Last year and this year my eyes actually improved which is why I was having trouble. My contacts were too strong. My eye doctor said that is common for vision to improve as we get holder.

Perhaps this is your issue as well?

actually it may have had more to do with you wearing contacts all the time......vision is based on eye shape......and let's face it, your eyeball is a bit like jello........contacts can change the shape of the face of your eye, thus how light is directed to the lense in the back of your eye.............there is a procedure where you wear a contact only while you sleep.......take them out when you wake up and you don't require anything to see........after a period of time you don't even need the contacts......."your vision is cured"......or your eyeball has been reshaped......which ever you prefer................................raven

btw, that procedure has only been approved for near sighted people at present

I don't know about all that. LOL I was told my vision in my eyes has improved and I didn't need contacts as strong as I was wearing. I know by looking at the new boxes compared to the old boxes that my RX changed. Smile

I'm that way too. For what it's worth, I'm near sighted and have astigmatism. My doctor says may vision isn't that bad.

Re: Eye sight issue (weird?)

Do you wear bi-focals? I did and I had the same problems before my cataract surgeries. I had to go to tri-focals. My long distance was viewed through the top lens/my computer monitor and things about arms length away were through the middle lens/the up close of course was with the bottom lens.

Sure, your eyes could be changing, but being able to see a certain distance is not always an accurate way fo evaluating ones eyesight changes. There are times of the day I can see better than others. If I am outside for a long time when I come inside my vision has changed, and this is currently, which is post cataract surgery on both eyes.

Maybe you need tri-focals for your middle range sight. If you have tri-focals already? Forget I said this.

Re: Eye sight issue (weird?)

Bifocals and Trifocals????

I haven't heard that expression for years and years. Don't we wear Progressive/Transition lenses now???

My husband and I just got new glasses within the past 2 weeks. Both of us got Progressive/Transition, anti-glare, etc., and I also got a pair of computer glasses. I don't know how I ever did without those... What a difference a lens makes. The Transition comes in a darker shade now. There is a slight tint inside but in the car, it really helps. Before, they didn't get dark but now they do. No more sunglasses. They are really dark.

Shorty - how are you feeling with the new med???? Better, I hope. I just got back from the Retina specialist and my freckles haven't changed in 6 months...... That's a good thing. Next week I go to the Ortho to see how my fractured hip is progressing. It's always something, isn't it???? Oh, and my eyes are so dilated right now, I can't see a thing, so please excuse the errors I may be making.....

I don't because my eye doctor doesn't want me to. I wear the regular trifocal lens. About sunglasses.....I got a pair of tortoise sunglasses from the Q several years ago that go right over my glasses, and they do me just fine......

Re: Eye sight issue (weird?)

Its only for the tv I take them off to see. Thanks for the replies. I will find out from the eye Dr when I go.

And no pain on the new meds, thanks for asking Sophia. I feel like my old self and not groggy at all which was a worry. Only 2 pills @ 10mg each a day is great. I get my new back shots in 2 weeks. I hope and pray you get good news about your hip. Best of luck!
