For what what it costs and what it's covering, I wouldn't buy it.

I would definitely not do it. $3,000 is extremely expensive for what they're offering. I had an extra key made for my Nissan Altima two years ago, and it was $135. Maybe if you had to completely replace it without one to go by it would be different. I'm not sure. I doubt it though. Regardless, you probably wouldn't lose both keys and would have one for them to go by.

I just bought a new Toyota and they offered these same extended warranty options.
What she is talking about are above and beyond the types of things covered under a standard vehicle repair warranty that a new or used car comes with. This warranty is for the "cosmetic" stuff, for lack of a better word.
The windshield thing was interesting. They put some sort of protective coating on it and it makes it easier to drive in bad weather or non-ideal conditions or something. They showed me videos on what it does. It's not just the replacement windshield coverage like you have with your insurance company.
Same thing with the scratch repair warranty.
The lost key warranty is similar to the insurance you buy for your cell phone in case you lose it.
I declined all of these before they told me the price. I had to sign a piece of paper that said I was declining them.

We have bought extended warrenty on all cars. Only used ot on one car, but it was a cracked block, u joints, and a host of things. So we were grateful. We had no deductible too. We jalso bought it on Fiat, but havent used it. The last car we bought a Land Rover, doesn't offer extended warranties. Oh boy

@jaxs mom wrote:lol I've never bought an extended warranty on a car and never will. I've also never needed one. What's the chance that I'll get 3 grand in service out of it? not likely.
@jaxs mom, don't jinx yourself.
I am kicking myself for not buying the extended warranty when I bought my car.
My car has under 45,000 miles on it and it has already needed a new starter, new water pump, a new steering gear, all 4 tires have had to be resealed and on my last oil change they said I have an oil leak that will be $1,200.00 to fix. The starter went bad 1 month after my regular warranty expired and cost me $600.00 to fix. I had about 20,000 miles on the car. Including the oil leak I've not had fixed yet, the repairs are $3,700.00.
My DH bought the extended warranty for his car and didn't need it so for his car, it was a waste of money. You just never know.

@Lipstickdiva The vast majority of the time you pay for something you never use and over time all that thrown away money is a heck of a lot more than the repairs you finally do have to pay for.

But we are being offered a warranty on 1.tires 2. rims 3 windshields 4. loss of electronic keys 5. dings on car surfaces from parking lot damage. The price tag is 3 grand. Do I ignore this and just take a chance. I know many of these items are very expensive but I am wondering if it is worth the extra purchase on top of the price of the car. We are talking about a RAV 4 2018. And at our age this just might be our last car since we keep them for 10 years or better.
Most new cars already have generous warranties. I just bought one that has bumper to bumper coverage for 3 years and then 2 more years of other things. I turned down the extended as I have with all my other cars that I've owned. My last car was 15 years old. at 14 years old, it had to have a new clutch. No warranty would have covered that at that age in the first place. It is my opinion that extended warranties aren't used within their time limits and this is just a way for dealerships to pick up some more money at little cost to them. I can't prove this. I'm just going by my own experiences.

I wouldn't pay $3000 for that warranty. I only bought an extended warranty once for my 2006 Honda CRV. $1200 and I never had to use it. My wonderful SIL and brother purchased an extended warranty $2400 for their 10 yr old car that is like brand new. Well a $16 part that wasn't covered by the warranty cost them $350 in labor. I'm leary of those extended warranties.
