Re: Evine returned my return back to me

[ Edited ]

@Say Nay  I don't know that I would exactly call easy pay a "perk". Often it's a sales tactic to entice someone to try something they might otherwise not buy, or unfortunately something they can't really afford. Often the prices are inflated.

Everyone has their own comfort level as to what is acceptable to them and what's not. I've certainly kept more than my fair share of things that I wanted to return but messed around and didn't return them on time. That's my fault, so I would never attempt to return it. But if I mistakenly returned something and it was a few days within the range, I would like to think that they would honor the return. . Another issue is how you are treated by the customer service person.  Things can turn ugly real quick when you have a rude CS rep.

I have continued to buy  from companies that tried to resolve my issue fairly even though it might not have been the outcome I wanted. I've also stopped buying from companies over somewhat trivial things because of how it was handled.

Personally, I don't need to ever buy anything from a home shopping channel but I've purchased many things over the years. I will never buy clothes from QVC again  due to an experience I had when I needed to exchange pants for talls. Instead of an exchange like HSN does, they are different item numbers, so you have to pay shipping costs again. That didn't sit well with me. To me it's gouging. So QVC lost my business on clothes. It's not that it was all that big a deal, but to me it was more about the principle, especially since sizing is not consistent. Add to the fact they are overpriced to start with, you pay shipping, return shipping, and shipping again. No thanks.

It clearly upset the OP and it sounds like the CS rep was rude and added fuel to the fire. Personally I probably would have been upset too. They go through more hassle to send the things back then bark out the return policy, that's the rule! No exceptions! How can you be so crass to even ask? Who cares that you spend thousands here, we're not taking back these $40 shoes!  Are you crazy?!  You get my drift.

Kinda like we all feel when we deal with Comcast, lol.

Best practice for all involved... if you don't like the retailer's return policy don't purchase.

Everyone has to be treated the same across the board. Because someone spends thousands of dollars shouldn't mean she gets preferential treatment over someone who spends $5. Evine isn't a club with membership benefits for those who spend more.

With the Q and their extended holiday return policy I wasn't quite sure if a few items were covered so I called CS to confirm. I didn't want to return items that didn't qualify. CS was more than happy to get the info for me.

That may sound good in theory, but in real life most companies reward those who are their better customers. If you are spending thousands they've made much more in profit from you to give them that flexibility. Exceptions are exceptions. They might choose to make an exception on the person who only spent $5 in hopes of making a good impression so they will have a positive experience and possibly buy more.

Restaurants have rules regarding reservations but you can bet if a regular big spender or high profile person shows up, they're getting a table. It might not be fair, but they are more interested in the regular big spender than average Joe tourist. Do I want to keep the person who comes in three times a week and spends hundreds of dollars happy, or someone who will probably never be back?  It's just a matter of dollars and cents.

Go into any crowded bar and see who gets the best service.  Guaranteed the guy that's there five days a week with a $500 bar tab every night is never going to be waiting on a drink, ever.

Beating a dead horse. They can choose to make no exceptions. But when a loyal customer gets a bad taste in their mouth over how they are treated, it's usually not a win for the company. That's the point I think we are making.

Look, I had the same experience as the OP when it was ShopNBC. I spent a lot of money with them, mostly jewelry (Lambert Chang's 24K, Sonia Bitton rings, jewelry from that Italian guy who sung loll). I even purchased a Cartier watch from them. They returned my return because it was received after their return deadline. I didn't whine about it. I don't know of any other place other than the Q and HSN that allows a customer to divide the cost by 6 and lets her take the merchandise home before it's paid for. If there are other places around that have the same "perks" I'd love to hear about it.

This! you didn't whine about it nor did you try to disparage the company because they didn't accept it after the return policy allotted date.

I think, again, that some people expect because they spend x amount of dollars at a place that the company should break the rules for them and that is the very definition of "entitlement."

You have to be a smart shopper to use any payment system. If I buy a high end item it's usually their "sample" which was used for on-air demos. The item is in perfect condition but it cannot be sold as "new". I get a hefty discount this way plus I can pay over 6 months. I just purchased some watches (not Invicta lol) at their Once Only price which was 57% off of the evine sale price. Not bad if you ask me. And I don't know of any retailer, internet or b&m, that does this.

I understand what you're saying. And I agree with you about clothing. I'm fed up as well with the multiple issues I've had in the past with sizing and quality. But again if one cannot abide by the policies don't purchase. This also applies to too many returns. It helps keep the cost of merchandise down for other customers. Some may feel accepting one late return from a "good" customer is okay. That this would ensure the customer stays a customer. But multiply that by tens of thousands and once becomes counterproductive.

Re: Evine returned my return back to me

not a good company? Why?

Rules are rules and a policy is in place for a reason. If they extend it for you by one week..then the next person will expect it in two..etc..

You have had ample time to decide if the shoes work or not..

Policies and rules are in place for a reason.

I don't think you can fault a company for sticking to their own policy.

In all the years I have been buying from HSN, QVC and Evine-I have never had this happen.

I returned a pair of shoes and evine sent them back to me..............I bought them 1 week before their holiday return policy kicked in-my error-the supervisor sounded like he could care less and even gave me the address of where I should write to complain-This is not a good company.

A good company makes a person that has spent thousands of dollars with them and returns hardly anything happy-not angry........

You could either donate the purchase or sell it on ebay. Take consolation in that Evine had to spend some money in shipping the package back to you!

Sorry that some of the responders are a little lacking in empathy. Yes, rules are rules, but oftentimes CSR's will make exceptions for those of us who are not perfect and mess up by not understanding a company's policies.

I rarely order from Evine; although the Beekman products are pretty good and I am very tempted today to make a purchase.

Re: Evine returned my return back to me

I think the problem with Evine is maybe not their return policy but their customer service can be spotty at times.

I purchased a quilt from them which reminded me of a sleeping bag so I immediately wrestled it back into the bag and went to use the Smart Label that was supplied.  For some reason I went to look up the purchase online and noticed it said that the Smart Label wasn't available (I have received many purchases from them where the label was removed so if you wanted to send it back you had to create your own).

The phone call to CS was a nightmare and very circuitous so I decided to try again with another CS rep and that went even worse.  In frustration I told them that would be my last transaction with them (was a customer since CVN) and to please close my account.

A few years have gone by and they had dish towels that I really liked so I decided to buy them only to find they did indeed close my account (which made me laugh out loud as years prior to that they had added my mom's name to my account when she called in for something and I could not get them to remove her name for love or money).

I like Evine and I think they have some nice things but I think more than twice when I do business with them.

Re: Evine returned my return back to me

[ Edited ]

The holiday return policy for Evine went into effect either the second or third week of October.  The OP said she bought the item a week before the policy went into effect so that means she bought them at the beginning of October.  At this point she is 60 days past the return policy.

Not only that, she doesn't mention that the item was a gift.  I think ALL the shopping channels are pretty lenient about allowing anyone to return anything they've purchased within that holiday gift period, whether it's a gift or not.  If I buy something during the holidays that is for me and it doesn't work out, I return it immediately.  I think many people take advantage of the extended return policy.

I've had issues with their CS before as well and I went for several years without buying anything from them over it, even though they did resolve it in my favor.  I am very careful now with what I purchase from them.

Re: Evine returned my return back to me

@Lipstickdiva  That must be new, because when I called their customer service about a month ago, they explicitly said it was from the order date.

Re: Evine returned my return back to me

@sharlee  This policy must be new because when I had called them late last year their customer service told me it was from the order date.
