Hi, Lynn, honestly I thought these HA shots were just to help with arthritis, they form a cushion to help with the loss of cartilage from arthritis. I had no idea they can help with pain from torn ligaments. I had a torn meniscus and had that repaired arthroscopically before I got any shots, that surgery was a piece of cake. Good luck !!

Has surgery been suggested to you and you are trying to avoid it, I can understand that

@Shelbelle  I have torn meniscus in both knees and have been putting off the surgery. When the doctor explains it it sounds so simple. If you wouldn't mind could you share how the surgery and recovery was for you. Could you walk right away? How about stairs-as we live in a two story house with master bedroom and bath upstairs. Any info you wouldn't mind sharing would be greatly aprreciated by me.

Sorry to usurp this thread from the original intent.

Hello, I had the meniscus surgery 2 years ago at the age of 69. It was done outpatient in a surgi ctr. It took all of 12 minutes, had 2 tiny scars , which now are both gone, as far as stairs, I have 26 steps in my home and was up and down all of them immediately. I did go to pt 3 times but didnt really need it. I still have a minimal pain, but that is from arthritis, the meniscus pain is gone. I went back to work a week after the surgery. If you are in pain, I say go foir it, it really is so easy.  2 of my coworkers and I all had the same surgery a few days apart, our recoveries were all the same, very easy.  I was driving right way too, and it was my right leg.  I get the gel shots now to help with the arthritis pain, but the meniscus is over and done.  I had no real pain afterr the surgery, just some stiffness. You can shower like normal after 2 days.  Does your doc want to do both knees at one time ?

Re: Euflexxa Injection in the Knee

I had many different shots in the knees before I had TKR.  I was scared before the first shot, she sprayed the knee and was I surprised & happy when there was no pain involved.  Good luck to you.

Re: Euflexxa Injection in the Knee

I have one more to go next week.  They are no big deal at all! Freezing spray and then a quick shot. Doctor said it might a couple weeks after the 3rd one before I felt any relief.  I had Synvisc years ago and I got  a couple years out of it! I would do it again but evidently Medicare doesn't like to pay for it (according to my doctor)! Good luck!

Re: Euflexxa Injection in the Knee

I am on Medicare and Medicare pays for me for Synvisc One every 6 months, no problems.

Re: Euflexxa Injection in the Knee

I had 5 of these injections 11 years ago - 5 was the usual number then. It helped me for about 9-10 months. It works longer for some people depending on the knee issue. I had a knee replacement a year after the shots.

@Shelbelle  Thank you for all the great information.

I'm not sure if he would want to do both at once as the second knee is a recent injury and I haven't gotten in to see him on it yet-although i just know from past experience that it is another tear-even without the MRI.

One other question-He said it would be general anesthesia-what did you have?

Yes, you are knocked out, similar for a colonoscopy, wake up very fast and almost immediately sent home. did require  pre op from my internist.  Happy to help, of course your doc will send you for another mri or maybe just office xrays, good luck. Also, by law they force you to get a walker or cane, Medicare paid for my walker and it is still in the wrapper in my car trunk.  I dont even see my tiny scars anymore.

If your too heavy best thing is to lose weight. takes

pressure off all your joints.

Years ago I had bad knees and couldn't make the stairs any more.

I dropped 50 pds. and took up recumbent bike to strengthen legs. Now, I got legs of a soccer player and I'm no Spring chicken.

Agree, my knee doc told me best way to avoid replacement is to keep weight down, exercise. also said to try any supps, I want to and try the gel shots.
