Etiquette and hurt feelings

The wedding invitation discussion made me want to share this experience and vent at the same time. My mom has two sisters. She sent $150 in new clothes to one a couple of years ago and she did not call to thank her. She has a lazy son and the other sister, who lives close to them, told my mom she did not wear the cloths. We are thinking they sold them to give him the money. She thanked her months later.

The second sister went to visit a daughter and this woman showed off a perfume. She wanted it and told my mom she was going to buy it with money my mother had promised her. Well, my mom ended-up sending both, the money and a perfume. It was around $250 and she did not thank her...

It is the last gift for both aunts.
