Re: Ethan Couch cannot be found

If they fear he left the country, why in the heck didn't they revoke his passport?

Why did they wait this long to leave? Looked him up, he is now 18 as of April.

Because he was only on probation.  People can leave the country while on probation but they need permission from their probation officer to do so.

I can think of a number of reasons..... get all their ducks in order:

Obtain fake ID papers

Obtain housing - safe houses

Setting up "cash" funds in various safety deposit boxes at different banks.

etc

etc

etc

etc

Rich people can hide for years because they can blend in just about anywhere & have the funds to stay under the radar.

But being they have the means to escape the country at any time, I would think he would have been considered a flight risk.

You made an excellent point.  I gather the judge in this case felt that a MINOR is not a flight risk. rolleyes.gif

Ethan's probation conditions.....

"He was sentenced to a state facility which requires the family to only pay $1100 per month.  The facility offers a 90-day treatment program that includes horse riding, mixed martial arts, massage and cookery, a swimming pool, basketball and six acres of land.  At least one relative of the crash victims has complained of the lightness of Couch's sentence and that Couch had expressed no remorse.

Following a court hearing closed to the public, Judge Jean Hudson Boyd, sentenced Couch to an unspecified lock down rehabilitation facility where his parents will pay, the time Couch will have to stay there was also unspecified. Couch was ordered to avoid using drugs or alcohol or driving. A hearing on April 11, 2014, revealed that on February 19, 2014, Couch began treatment "at the North Texas State Hospital, a state-owned in-patient mental health facility" in Vernon, Texas. Although the daily rate for the treatment facility is $715, Couch's parents were ordered to pay $1,170 per month for his stay there, based on the state's sliding-scale payment schedule. The amount ordered is the maximum allowed on the payment schedule. Couch's parents promised in court to pay the requested fee for their son's treatment."

Why would anyone leave the country just because they got probation?

@jaxs mom

Did you read all of his probation conditions????

The kid is a minor whose harmones are jumping w/a 10 year probation.  One of his conditions is that he cannot drink alcohol.

A childs mind cannot comprehend that!  Remember he is not a Mormon.

Oh he can understand "no drinking". No doubt about it. A child can understand "NO anything (fill in the blank).

When that video surfaced, before they even went looking for him, his lawyer was already putting out statements that the video "only shows him at a party. There is no drink in his hand, therefore they cannot say he violated probation."

That lawyer should be fined or something. I know it is his job to be a defense attorney, but there is a line of ethics he has crossed in my opinion. "he doesn't have a glass in his hand. Party is over, no way to test him, therefore is is within probation stips"

Seriously? I agree there is no smoking gun, but the arrogant behavior of being at a party playing beer pong is just infuriating.
