Today I stopped by Penney's because I needed a few basic clothing items.  Since I was dragging the ball and chain hubby along, I wanted to make it a swift run.  I was so surprised that so much of the clothing was marked down, I dispatched hubby into his department to pick up a few things for himself too.  We hooked back up and compared notes on how much we saved on our fabulous finds.  Checked out, and the clerk handed me a $20 bonus coupon, effective immediately.  Ok.  Not leaving that on the table.  Grabbed a few more items.  Checked out again, and the clerk handed me a $10 bonus coupon, effective immediately.  OMG  Can't give that up either.  Now, the pressure is on.  Hubby and I walked that store to find that special item.  Checked out, and I actually threatened the clerk to NOT hand me another coupon.  She didn't.  On the way out, hubby said, I thought that was fun.  Good grief.  That coming from a NON-shopper.  LOL

I think the malls are suffering with everyone ordering online more and more each year - glad it paid off!

Great sale.  Love when that happens when I wasn't expecting it.

Re: Shopping at Penney's

[ Edited ]

I had a similar shopping experience at JCP a number of years ago near Christmas, but before their bottom almost fell out. I went to one of their nicer stores in my area and was at least marginally impressed. As for the sales and coupons, I think it's just how they roll around this time of year. I got a ton of stuff at great savings. I hadn't shopped there in years and was sort of surprised at all I found. Have to admit, I don't think I've been there since. They have so few stores and the one nearest me while in a nice area isn't one of their best.

I also shopped at Penney's last weekend.  Found 2 long sleeve t-shirts for 7.99 and they washed up wonderfully, and are soft and comfortable.  Glad I stopped in.  I was not really looking for these, but needed some for work in the appropriate colors!  Love.

I have shopped Penneys for decades, but when they changed their approach a couple years ago, I just could not continue to shop there. I tried 3-4 times to pick up some things I wanted/needed, but it was impossible and I left in disgust.   Haven't been back, and as a matter of face, haven't even set foot in the mall this shopping season.

Most folks who know me know JCP is my store.

I've been two Sears two weeks in a row and have scored some great sales there.
