Just because it's a gated community doesn't mean everyone that lives there is a good person

Workers, delivery people and 'friends' come & go every day!  That is just normal activity anywhere, gated or not!

Clearly we did not notice it when we pulled up to the garage in the dark last evening, so it was sitting outside all night until my DH went out this morning to get the paper.

HSN could not have been any nicer. I sent a photo of the ripped open box in my e mail to them and they immediately called me to say the replacement was on it's way.

There have been a few thefts in our community since last summer. It turned out that a youth pastor who was a renter here had given out the gate code to numerous kids so they could come to his house, and it was believed the kids were the thieves, as they were seen wandering around at night. Anyway - the pastor's lease was not renewed so he is gone and the codes to open the gates have been changed so it was thought the problem was solved. Obviously not. I spoke to our HOA vice president and he said the same has happened to a few other folks too. There is a fox in the henhouse somewhere.

HSN was more than gracious in sending you a replacement, especially for the fact it wasn't their fault at all.  The box was left out overnight and opened.  UPS or USPS did their job in delivering the package to your home.

I'm sure HSN will be turning it over to the insurance - places like QVC & HSN insure those packages. They are responsible for that package until it is in your hand.Throwing it on the ground in your yard is NOT delivering it to you.

this time of the year i make sure to check all of my doors to see if any packages have been left by ups, usps, fedex, or anyone else. several times a day if i can.

do you have a community office that accepts packages for residents? that would be a safer option.

No, UPS, Red Ex, UPS are responsible for delivering packages to your home, in your private community.  The responsibility lies with the homeowner.in this case because the package was left out overnight. Not their fault  at all.

p.s How do you know it was thrown on the ground if you didn't see it?  You ONLY saw the opened box on the ground, the package could have been sitting on your doorstep.

Who let the bad guys into a gated community?

The people who work for the landscape company - the utilities employees - idiots giving out the codes to plumbers , appliance repairmen, and every other Tom, *ick and Harry who does work on their home, empolyees of all the vendors who do maintainence work like painters, pool guys, housekeepers, HVAC guys Fireman, policeman and paramedics.UPS & other delivery companies. The Schwans Man. Probably hundreds of people have codes to open those gates. My housekeeper has a code , I bet a lot of housekeepers here have the code. Any idea that those gates actually are protecting anyone is pure fantasy.

So, everyone has the code to the gate EXCEPT the new Delivery Service QVC uses to deliver their packages in your area.  Okaaaaaaaaaaay

If it was in front of the garage door - the only place other than the yard on that side of the house - we would have seen it or run it over as we came into the garage. I know people don't really understand this but in florida it is common for the side of the house where the garage is to face the street and the "front" of the house where the door is faces your next door neighbor.
