I recently heard about such a dog on an airplane. It didn't mention the breed but it must have been a large dog. It had diarrhea and vomited several times in the aisle of the airplane. People all over the plane were gagging as the smell was circulated in the air. The crew only had a few paper towels, not enough to clean it up. The plane had to make an emergency landing for cleaning.

Maybe it's not a dog that would calm me. Could be....a large snake draped on my neck. Would I be given the same rights as a support dog owner if I went into a restaurant? Physical support is much different than emotional support.

There actually have been cases where people have tried to get pet snakes and other reptiles recognized as service animals. One family tried to get their daughter's miniature horse recognized so she could take it to school with her. I'm not kidding, these were actual court cases. It's been a couple of years since I was doing some research on this so I don't remember where I found this info. I think there were links that I followed from the ADA website. If I look, I could find them, I'm sure.

Humans get sick too...not just dogs.

Chances were much greater that a passenger gets sick on a plane.

Humans get sick too...not just dogs.

Chances were much greater that a passenger gets sick on a plane.

Humans will go to the restrooms with diarrhea, not leaving it up and down the aisle.

This answer is ridiculous. Humans use the bathrooms, not the aisle.

Never actually thought that barf bags were for diarrhea, but maybe you fly different airlines than I. Should a passenger be sick the bag will contained it so can be disposed of with little disruption to the other passengers. Works for diapers also. Once again not in the aisle

Flying is very stressful for animals. What I am guessing is that this dog was not given anything to calm him prior to departure. When an animal is so distressed they do what is natural to them empty their system. Now if the owner used cheap dog food the masses left behind are much bigger and nastier smelling. I have seen in class a man that brought his two dogs to class and the excitement and stress caused them to take the biggest dump I have ever seen (and I have big dogs)...One got done with their business and the other started right up. HUGE piles. Poor guy was gagging the whole time. I felt bad but I do believe that the service dog here may have been so stressed that he emptied his whole system. No one expected that and the owner may not have ever flown with the dog. A veterinarian should advise anyone with taking animals onboard. Also the temperature factor comes into play. A dog cannot be flown in hot weather. Most dogs do fly in the cargo area so I don't know if this airline restriction applies to in cabin dogs flying. In the case of the service dog the flight attendants used up the entire supply of paper trying to clean up the mess. Obviously it was the flight from H E L L for many passengers and crew.

Ha! I was on a flight when a toddler in my aisle starting vomiting everywhere and had diarrhea so bad it also went all over the seat and floor. It was not a good flight. So people can and of get sick in places other than the bathroom.

The post mentioned that the dog vomited too.

Babies get sick all over as well...and the leftover diapers don't smell like roses either!
