I've used an epilator for many years, in various areas. Granted, like others have said, it seems like the facial hairs come back but it you do it enough it will really make a difference. I'd NEVER shave my face.
One major benefit I love about having used the epilator for so long is that my leg hair just went away. Every now and then (like maybe once in a couple of months) I will find, literally, one to two hairs on each leg. Last time went even better - no hairs on one leg and one hair on the other.
Man, I just love that I don't have to worry about shaving my legs anymore! I've also gotten rid of most of the underarm hairs that way.
Epilating the legs doesn't hurt. Underarms - a bit. Face - yeah, some areas hurt a bit but not all that much. I just power through it and it's advantageous in the end. ![]()

My early memories of using the epilator were sharp pain, but I was determined to have legs that didn't require regular shaving. With each use of the epilator, the pain seemed to lessen. It wasn't long before using it on my legs was painfree. Like you it's sometimes uncomfortable under the arms, but certainly not any pain involved. Under my chin are only 2-3 hairs, which I often tweeze instead (hoping to kill the roots of those hairs each time!).

@Hilery I did electrolysis a number of years ago. I had15 minute appointments every 3 weeks (hair growth cycle) for about 9 months. I used a numbing cream before going in and a stick foundation to cover the redness when I left. I could schedule touch up appointments after that whenever I felt I needed to. The results were permanent. Whatever discomfort I had was nothing compared to the embarrassment I had felt. You can trim the hairs to 1/8" if you are between appointments.
For the light colored peach fuzz & hair I use an epilator every 3 weeks. I don't think they've invented a laser that "sees" light hair.
For the random dark hairs, I use an at home laser whenever I see them. 3-4 treatments & they're gone.
Another option is to go through a round of laser treatments when a business has a package price or offer on Groupon and then take it from there with an at home laser.

@chickenbutt , Thank you so much for all your responses. Many options to think about. How is an epilator different from a shaving appliance? I am assuming both appliances are battery operated.

My epilator is probably 12-15 years old, but works fine so I've never purchased another. It's not like a shaver; it's similar to having 60 tweezers (close together and staggered in several rows) that rotate as you move the epilator across the skin to remove the hair. IIRC it has two speeds. I don' t use pressure; just gentle long up and down motions (legs) or circular motions (under my chin). It does not cut or nick the skin.
My epilator plugs into any electrical outlet. I didn't want one with batteries.

@BirkiLady @I appreciate your description of epilator. It may be the path I choose for now.

I too have a epilator with a cord. So old I don't remember when I got it. I use it on the chin and upper lip weekly. But the hairs just keep coming. Mostly all white now. Very coarse.
Pondering going with electrolysis now.

@cantdrive55 What kind of laser do you use? I have a very few dark hairs I'd like to get rid of.
